CMS FAQ'S

CMS FAQ'S

How do I get in touch with the teachers?

A list of all teachers and their email address can be found here.

The master list of class REMIND codes can be found here.

What are the expectations for completing schoolwork during this extended break?

The most important thing to remember is that families are not expected to recreate school at home. The staff members of CMS have developed enrichment opportunities that build on previously introduced material. These activities are 100% optional and will not be counted for a grade. Students may reach out to teachers via Canvas if they have questions regarding the resources. Go at your own pace! We have provided a great deal of resources, however, please don't feel overwhelmed. Do what works best for you and your students.

Will there be learning packets available to students?

No packets are being provided for enrichment opportunities. This decision was made for the purpose of limiting exposure between individuals and doing what we can to reduce the risk of exposure and the spread of COVID-19.

You are encouraged to reach out to Mr. Sullivan or Mrs. Casey with any concerns in regard to your student completing the enrichment opportunities.

What about grades?

All grades for 3rd quarter have been finalized. Report cards were sent home with all students on Friday, March 13th. As for 4th quarter grades, any assignment that was given prior to leaving on Spring Break will still count towards their overall 4th quarter grade. However, with that being said we will continue to monitor and follow the guidance of the DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) for how to assess and administer final grades for students.

What if the teachers says they are grading my child's work?

Please understand that this is solely to provide feedback to your child. The scores will not be entered into the STI grading portal. Providing this feedback is essential even when the work is not counting towards a grade.

What if we don't have Internet at home?

Reminder that all the resources/work shared by teachers is optional and will not have a negative impact on a students grade. However, students wishing to complete the supplemental resources may use one of the following options.

Option 1: The district level newsletter provides information on local Internet providers. Click here to access the district newsletter.

Option 2: Chromebooks will connect to ANY district wifi and the wifi signal extends beyond the walls of the buildings. In theory, you could park in the main drive of the high school, near the Ag building, or near the Junior High and the Chromebook will connect. While working from a car or outside of a building may not be ideal, it is a viable option. We can not stress enough the importance of maintaining appropriate physical distancing if you do come onto the school grounds. Best practice would be to remain in your vehicle. Otherwise, maintain at least 6 feet of distance between you and any other person.

What do I do if my child's chromebook is not working properly?

A Google Form has been created for students/parents to submit in the event your Chromebook is having issues. It is important to understand that collecting, repairing, and disinfecting a device may take up to three weeks. If a loaner device is needed, please contact Mr. Heflin (heflinr@cleverbluejays.org) or Mr. Sullivan (sullivanj@cleverbluejays.org) so that arrangements can be made as quickly as possible.

Can my child get a book for the K-8 Library?

The K-8 library is closed at this time. However, we are planning on distributing books on Thursday, April 9th from 11:00-12:30 in the 5th-8th grade circle drive. We received a large donation of new books from a local organization. These books will be for the student to keep and will not be required to return them.

Will there be summer school?

There have been no changes at the state level at this point in regard to the Summer School program. As a district, we are continuing to exercise patience and a "wait and see" approach. Many families will need answers to questions pertaining to how the school year will end before making decisions about Summer School enrollment.

When more concrete decisions are made about Summer School, online registration forms will be made available.

What if my student is required to complete remedial summer school coursework?

Mr. Sullivan or Mrs. Casey will be reaching out to families to develop a plan for completing this work. We are hoping to get students started on their learning path sooner than later.

Is there a plan for the 2020-2021 scheduling of classes?

Mrs. Casey has been working behind the scenes on developing a plan for this process. Our hope is that most of this can be done through a Google form. We assure you that we will get this information out to families as soon as possible. Keep your eyes open!

What about scheduling for my child that will be a Freshman in the Fall?

The HS and MS administration along with the counselors have begun discussing a plan for this process. Typically a scheduling night is held in the Spring to provide all the necessary information and then tentative schedules are created. Most likely, we will try to do as much as possible digitally with the understanding that some may not be able to do so. We will work with those families on an individual basis. Be on the lookout for more information the coming weeks.

Will there be an 8th grade graduation ceremony?

At the current stage, no decision has been made. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide information to families as soon as we are able to do so.
