November - We Remember and Celebrate Diversity November - We Remember and Celebrate Diversity

As we move into November, our focus turns to Remembrance Day and Harmony Day. During the first part of the month, students will take time to reflect on the privilege of living in a peaceful country; and to express gratitude for those who have served and continue to serve. Our Remembrance Day Assembly will take place on November 10 at 10:40 a.m. We will also celebrate Harmony Day, a special opportunity to recognize and appreciate the cultural diversity that enriches our school and community. At École Hudson Road Elementary—and throughout our district—Harmony Day is a time to celebrate cultural diversity and to show appreciation and understanding for all who call Canada and the Okanagan home. Students will engage in meaningful conversations and activities that promote understanding, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.

As winter approaches, the temperatures are dropping; none-the-less, our students still need their time outside. We remind you to please send your child/children to school dressed for the weather. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots help keep everyone comfortable and safe during outdoor activities. Layers are best for changing temperatures throughout the day — and an extra change of clothes (including socks) is always a good idea in case feet get wet or cold.

Progress continues and we thank everyone for their patience as the space to park has been greatly reduced since last week. Paving is scheduled for November 14 and we are hopeful that in the following week, staff will be able to park in the usual parking lot freeing up the parents' and guests' parking lot.

Hudson Hawks will have the opportunity to perform in one of our two concerts this year. To make the planning and rehearsals for such performances more manageable, the audience to a size that respects our gym capacity, and to keep the concert themselves to a more enjoyable duration, we divide our school into two groups. Each group will be part of one concert either in December or in the spring.

The December Concert will showcase the following classes:

  • Mr. Bertoia's class
  • Mr. Friesen's class
  • Mrs. Varga & Cornell's class
  • Mrs. Mclaren's class
  • Mme Singer's class
  • Mme Sharpe's class
  • Mrs. Carkner 's class
  • Mrs. Heimbach 's class

There will be two representations of the concert: 12:30pm and 6pm on Thursday December 10.
