Class Teacher Meetings for Parents - Running the week of 23rd September 2024
We are aware that we have many new pupils in our school, and that every child is starting this year with a different teacher. Therefore, we would like to invite parents to a brief meeting with their child's class teacher during the week of September 23rd. These meetings will take place first thing each morning and will last approximately 20 minutes. During the meeting, your child's teacher will outline the classroom protocols and procedures for the year, including curriculum priorities and an outline of homework. Coffee and tea will be available afterward, providing an opportunity for you to meet other parents of children in the same class. We understand that it may be difficult for everyone to attend these meetings, but we believe they will be highly beneficial in starting the year off on the right foot and giving you and the teacher a chance to align on the priorities for the year ahead. We hope you can make it.
Parking
In the interest of being able to maximise the amount of collection points in the school for drop off and collection, we would kindly ask that you minimise large gaps when parking in front of or behind other cars as we have limited space available for collection and drop off.
Also, please be mindful of where you are parking when dropping and collecting your child, please do not park up on our neighbours grass or in front of their entrance gates.
Aladdin
If you have any issues logging in or regsitering with the Aladdin app, please contact the office - dangan.school@yahoo.ie
Contact Details
Please check that all your child's information is correct on Aladdin, if your phone number or address has changed, please update it as soon as possible.
Fees
Many thanks to those of you who have paid the school requisites. I would be grateful if any outstanding fees were paid as soon as possible. These payments are made via Aladdin, on your child's page.
Permissions
Please update permissions on Aladdin regarding consent for the use of school-related photograph images which may include your child on the school website and/or school facebook page.
School Communication
The school must be informed in advance of a child being collected early. This can be done via a note on Aladdin or in the school journal. When a child is absent from school, parents must submit an explanation and this can be done through the Aladdin App.
If parents wish to make an appointment to speak to a teacher, they can do so by sending a notice via Aladdin, or a note in the homework journal. Parents can communicate with teachers and with the school preferably by Aladdin or email. Emails and messages will only be replied to between the hours of 8:30am and 3pm.
Reminder - Please Label Your Child's School Jumper
Allergies
If your child has an allergy or medical condition that you feel the school should be made aware of, please get in contact with your child's class teacher, if you have not done so already.
Birthday Treats
Birthday Treats
If your child is celebrating their birthday and would like to bring in treats for their classmates, please note that these treats will be sent home with each child at the end of the day. Treats from pupils will not be opened in school, this is so that parents can decide if the treats being provided are suitable for their child to eat. Please do not feel obliged to send in treats for the class when it is your child’s birthday!
Photographer Visit – Wednesday 11th September
Memory Lane photography will be here Wednesday the 11th to take photos of Junior Infant pupils (and their siblings). A class photo of 6th class will also be taken. Please send your child in wearing their full uniform on this day. If you would like your child's photo to be taken on this day and they are not in Junior Infants, please email Sharon in the office and she will add them to the list. secretary@dangannationalschool.ie
School Attendance
As you are all aware, school attendance is very important for all children. Good attendance at school supports children to achieve their full potential.
In circumstances where a child is removed for class during the school day the parent/guardian responsible will sign the sign-out book in the school office. This will note the date and time the child leaves the school. This document will also record the date and time of the child’s return to class should the absence be for a brief period to attend an appointment.
Children who are absent for more than 20 days at school must be reported to the Educational Welfare Board of An Tusla and this is done periodically. The school is obliged by law to submit a School Absence Report and parents will be notified in writing when this happens.
However, if the school has serious concerns about a child’s attendance at school, the school is obligated to make a referral to the Educational Welfare Board of An Tusla requesting school and family support. If serious concerns are raised in relation to the reasons as to why a child is absent from school, the Designated Liaison Person is obliged to make a referral to the Social Worker Department of An Tusla.
Child Protection
All staff members are mandated persons and have an obligation under the Children’s First Act 2015 to make referrals to An Tusla when necessary. The designated liaison person is Aoife Ryan, and the Deputy Designated Person is Sharon Wall.
