HEARING AND VISION SCREENINGS
2025
Vision and hearing screenings will be conducted with students this fall...
Dear parents and guardians:
Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is required by Maryland law to perform hearing and vision screenings for all students enrolled in pre-k, kindergarten (if not screened in pre-k), 1st grade, and 8th grade. American Medical Staffing will begin screening students by November 2025.
It is important to note these are basic screenings and are not intended to identify all vision and hearing conditions.
Parents/Legal guardians can choose to opt-out of the screenings under one of the following conditions:
Parents/Legal guardians may provide medical documentation to the school that their child has had his/her hearing and/or vision tested within the past calendar year.
Parents/Legal guardians may provide written notification of objection to the screenings based on the tenets and practice of your church or religion.
If you choose to opt-out of screenings, health room staff must receive the medical documentation and/or written notification of objection by October 18, 2025.
