Greeley Greeting

Principal's Message
Dear Greeley Families,
The rainy weather has passed, and we are excited to enjoy some beautiful fall weather this week! Thank you to everyone for sending students prepared with rain jackets and boots during last week’s wet weather. Being dressed for the elements helped us maximize our outdoor time whenever possible.
This week also brings a wonderful opportunity for families to learn more about the new math resources our staff are using with students. We hope you will consider attending Wednesday’s Winnetka Parent Institute to learn more about these resources and how they are supporting math learning across the district. Please see below for additional details.
Finally, we have extended the deadline for our Parent Instructional Technology Survey by a few days. If you have not yet had a chance to share your feedback, please take a few minutes to complete the survey today. Your input is greatly appreciated and helps inform our work.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!
Warmly,
Lindsay

Lighthouse Moment
Today, our students had the opportunity to participate in our annual Fire Prevention Assembly with the Winnetka Fire Department. This important tradition coincides with National Fire Prevention Month and the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, which burned from October 8–10, 1871.
Throughout the assembly, students learned practical ways they can help keep themselves and others safe. Firefighters reviewed who to call in an emergency, how smoke travels, what to do if clothing catches fire, the importance of having a designated family meeting place, and why every home needs working smoke detectors.
We are grateful to the Winnetka Fire Department for partnering with us to provide this meaningful experience for our students. The assembly is also a wonderful example of progressive education in action, bringing together two important tenets: a collaborative community and authentic learning experiences. By learning directly from the firefighters who serve our community, students are able to connect what they learn at school to the world around them in a meaningful and memorable way.

Exploring Innovamat: A Fresh Approach to K–4 Mathematics
10:30 am -11:30 a.m. - The Skokie School Resource Center
*Please note - this is an in-person event*
Join us for an interactive introduction to Innovamat, our new K–4 mathematics resource. Parents will experience math learning as our students do—exploring problems, sharing strategies, and building understanding through discussion and discovery, all while learning how Innovamat’s spiraled approach develops confident, flexible mathematical thinkers.
Instructional Technology Survey Extended Until October 6!
The Winnetka Public Schools is reviewing how instructional technology is used across our K–8 classrooms, including during the school day and for learning at home, and we want to hear from parents and caregivers.
Your feedback through this brief anonymous survey will help District leadership better understand families’ perspectives and experiences as we work to establish clear, consistent expectations across grade levels and strengthen the resources and guidance we provide to families.
If you have multiple children enrolled in The Winnetka Public Schools, please respond based on your eldest child’s experience. Please complete the survey by the end-of-the-day on October 6, 2026!

Winter Sharing Updates
Thank you to everyone who shared feedback about this year’s Winter Sharing! Based on the strong preference from families to holding Winter Sharing at Greeley after school, we are excited to host grade-level Winter Sharing performances on Wednesday, December 16.
Our first performance will begin with Kindergarten at 4:00 p.m., allowing us time to safely dismiss all students at the end of the school day before welcoming families into the building. The auditorium will open at 3:45 p.m. for Kindergarten families.
Each grade-level performance will last approximately 20 minutes, with time built into the schedule for families to exit the auditorium and for the next group of families to enter and find their seats. We have structured the tentative times to allow grade levels with the most common siblings (grades 2/4 and 1/3) to be back to back with one another to ease transitions.
Tentative Winter Sharing Performance Schedule
Kindergarten: 4:00 p.m.
Grade 1: 4:30 p.m.
Grade 3: 5:00 p.m.
Grade 2: 6:00 p.m.
Grade 4: 6:30 p.m.
We look forward to welcoming our families to Greeley for this special tradition and celebrating the joy of the season together!
