We continue to practice learning sign language for each letter of the alphabet.
Phonics: We play some “phonics games” orally for a few minutes each day. We continue to work on listening for beginning sounds in words, ending sounds in words, blending words, rhyming words and counting words in a sentence.
Students completed the Reading and Math iReady assessments.
Social Studies
Topics:
Following rules, “superstar” listening and speaking, Holidays: Thanksgiving
Activities:
Holidays: Thanksgiving- Read stories about Thanksgiving and being thankful, Shared things we are Thankful for, made I am Thankful Thanksgiving Placemats
Listening and Speaking: We continue to practice “Superstar” listening and speaking skills (eyes on speaker, ears listening, mouth closed, hands and feet to self, raise hand for turn to speak) This takes time, as we always have so many things to share, but students are working hard, and doing well! Students shared their Thanksgiving Homework with the class, and practiced using a “just right sharing voice”, they stayed on topic and let their audience see their work while they shared.
Science
Topics:
Seasons: Fall vs summer, Alphabet STEM – P Parachute, Sink or Float
Turkeys
Activities:
Fall: together we brainstormed a list of things we see in the summer, and things we see in the fall. We read, The Leif Thief and From Summer to Fall.
Alphabet STEM – “P” – We watched a short video about parachutes and then students were given pipe cleaners, tape, coffee filters, a small paper cup,
and used them to construct a parachute. Students planned out what their parachute would look like and made a prediction of how many times their cup would land sitting up. I tried to give them as little instruction and direction as possible.
Sink or Float – We read Who Sank the Boat? And Will it Float or Sink? Students made predictions about which of the given items would sink and which would float and then tested their predictions. Many were surprised to find out that pumpkins float and rubber bands sink. Students were introduced to the vocabulary: sink, float, buoyancy and density.
Turkeys: watched a Mystery Science video: What is that read thing on a turkey?, and watched a short video: turkey facts
