Weekly Newsletter 4/10/26
Hello and happy Friday!
For many, this was the second week of VT CAP testing, and students tackled the math portion of the assessment. Once again, the students worked hard and did their best. It's a real challenge to solve multi-step word problems that are similar in some ways to what students have been doing, but when out of context, can feel very different. The 5th graders have two days of science testing next week and then everyone will be finished for 2026. Results from these assessments will be mailed home in the fall.
With warmer spring-like temperatures and a lot more daylight, we know many families will choose to hang out after school and play on the playground. Everyone is welcome to play and socialize, we just ask that every child not staying as part of the Extended Day Program be supervised closely by a guardian or parent --and that school rules still apply. We are grateful for Milo's willingness to be our Extended Day staff person, and need to make sure he is supervising only those students staying as part of the program. Thank you for your help with this.
We have one week left until April vacation! A number of families are opting to lengthen their vacations and take their children out of school for some or all of next week. Please remember, absences up to two days may be excused by me, where absences of three or more days need to be excused by the superintendent. Absences are excused if the student will be doing something deemed educational.
Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who have been volunteering in classrooms and/or driving students for field trips. We love parent volunteers and encourage you to submit an application if you are interested in helping out. The application is on the ACSD website under Work With Us.
Thanks for checking out the weekly updates and have a great weekend,
Tracey

Champ's Big Secret --a play about Lake Champlain
The fourth graders worked super hard this week rehearsing their play Champ's Big Secret. They will be going to Burlington on Monday to perform this creative production that they wrote and developed to educator others about Lake Champlain. It's GREAT!
Happy April Fools!
Last week, Ms. Fitzgerald played an April Fools Day joke on her class by telling them she had to leave unexpectedly and they would be on their own for the rest of the day. She snuck outside the classroom door and heard them carefully following her directions to carry on with Morning Meeting without her. I think they were both relieved and a little sad when Ms. Fitzgerald came back inside telling them it was an April Fools joke!

April Great Book Give Away!
Mrs. O'Neill is planning another book give away prior to April Vacation (starting 4/15). Please have your student bring their "I Love Reading" book bags to school on that day so we can fill it up with more books for them to keep!

The IB PYP Exhibition: A journey of Inquiry!
We are thrilled to announce the start of the IB PYP Exhibition for our 5th grade students. This is a monumental milestone in our student’s elementary education—a "capstone" project that celebrates everything they have learned during their time in the Primary Years Program. Exhibition is a student-led, collaborative inquiry process. Students identify a real-world issue they are passionate about, conduct research, and take meaningful action to make a difference.
5th grade families will receive a longer email with more details, but our entire ACSD community can support our students: 1) If you know a student involved in Exhibition ask them what they are discovering and how it affects our world! 2) If you want to be a mentor or offer your real-world expertise for students whose topic relates to your work, contact your principal or Brandi Corbett, PYP Coordinator, bcorbett@acsdvt.org
