October 8, 2024

Monsoon Family,

As partners in your child’s success, it’s essential that we work together to support their growth and development. One of the most impactful things you can do is to check in with your children daily. By asking the right questions and staying informed about their experiences at school and online, you help them feel supported and understood in every aspect of their lives.

Here are a few questions to ask your child:

  • What was the most interesting thing you learned today?
  • Did you have any challenges today? How did you handle them?
  • How are your friendships and relationships at school?
  • Are there any upcoming projects or assignments I can help you with?
  • What’s something you’re proud of from today?

In addition to school-related conversations, it’s also important to talk about what your children are seeing and hearing on social media. In today’s digital world, social media plays a big role in how students communicate and form their perceptions of the world around them.

Ask your children questions like:

  • What social media platforms do you use the most?
  • Have you seen or heard anything online that made you feel uncomfortable or upset?
  • Who are you interacting with online, and do you know them personally?
  • What kinds of content are you most interested in? What are your friends sharing?

It’s important to stay informed about your child's online activity. How much do you really know about what they’re doing online? Conversations about their digital habits can help ensure they’re navigating the internet safely and responsibly. Social media can be a great way to connect with friends and learn new things, but it also comes with risks, such as exposure to harmful content or cyberbullying.

By having open, non-judgmental discussions, you can help your child feel comfortable sharing their experiences with you, both at school and online. Let’s work together to guide our students in making positive choices, both in the classroom and on social media.

We’re here for you, and we appreciate everything you do to stay informed, engaged, and supportive of your child’s growth.

Thank you once again for your support.

Sean R. Diaz

Mayfair Middle/High School students will utilize the app called Minga as a digital ID card. The app enables staff to create hall passes, reward students for doing well and helping others, and the digital ID card will help students have an easier time entering or leaving campus. The digital ID has a "live" interface, with a running digital clock and a moving background, thus preventing students from using a screenshot [Screenshots of ID are not permitted]. Students will utilize their school email (via Google) to log in. The app is safe to use, uses very little data, and doesn't require access to any of the information stored on your phone. If your child does not have a smartphone, don't worry - they will receive a printed ID card as well. Click here to access a quick document that shows you how to log into your school's Minga account.
