Principal's Wave
Hello MES Families,
The 2026 Art Show took place this past Thursday and was a tremendous success! We hope that you and your family enjoyed taking a look at all the incredible projects our students have done under the leadership of Ms. Nicole! Many families especially enjoyed our special puzzle project which includes art from all of our staff and students combined! Thank you for your support for our amazing MES artists!
We look forward to celebrating talent this week! Our MES Talent Show is at 10:30 on Friday (note that this is a later time than originally broadcast), and our 4th and 5th Music Performance is Friday Evening! It will be a week to remember!
School Site Council needs parents for the 2026-27 school year! Please see information below for how you can put your name on the ballot to be a part of this committee!
Consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in a child’s success at school. When students are present each day, they build strong routines, stay connected with their classmates, and fully engage in learning. Even a few missed days can lead to gaps in understanding and make it harder for children to feel confident in class. Thank you also for helping your child arrive at school on time and ready to learn. Your partnership makes such a meaningful difference in their growth and success!
Ms. Sally Wennes
Principal

School Site Council - Parent Interest
School Site Council Parent Representative Vacancies - May 29 Self-Nomination Deadline
There are two vacant two-year seats for parents on our (2026-27 & 2027 - 2028) School Site Council. We need parent-candidates to run for office. This is the single most important committee at school in steering school improvement goals. The committee consists of five parents, three teachers, one support staff member, & the principal. The principal helps the committee to analyze needs, set direction, and evaluate progress. The Board of Education sets expectations for the Site Council and establishes criteria for the approval of the School Improvement Plan (also known as the School Plan for Student Achievement / SPSA) and School Safety Plan (SSP).
Next year’s SPSA was finalized earlier this month by this year’s committee and constitutes a large number of the priorities for staff and principal. This year’s SSP was finalized in January. Throughout the school year the committee reviews progress and discusses next steps. At the end of the year an assessment of progress and an adjustment or confirmation of goals occurs.
We meet once a month 3:30 - 5:00 via Zoom and at times, some additional reading beyond meeting times will be needed in order to be an informed representative. Are you interested in running for office? Please complete this Official Candidate Form by Friday, May 29.
Election Calendar
Self-nominations Deadline is Friday, May 29, 2026.
Candidates will be announced by Monday, June 1, 2026.
If there are multiple candidates, there will be an election.
Ballots will be sent to parents electronically on June 1.
Polls will be open Monday, Monday June 1-Tuesday June 9.
Election results will be published on Wednesday, June 10, 2026
Help lead our school to never-ending improvement. Please contact Principal Sally Wennes, if at all curious about this opportunity to lead!

Mental Health Awareness Month Activities
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at MES we’re reminding students and families that mental health is an important part of overall health 😌.
In the elementary years, children are learning to recognize feelings, ask for help, solve problems, and connect with others in healthy ways. When students feel safe, seen, and supported, we help build a foundation for lifelong well-being.
Our Mental Health & Wellness events in May support that growth by helping students and families build skills and connection.
Our final event is this Friday, May 29, from 1–2pm
This is an interactive workshop for families ~ Oshri will be visiting for this session, which looks to be amazing!
Please RSVP at bit.ly/MESwellness. These after-school events are free, open to the whole family, and not drop-off events.
Hope to see you there!

More Information for Parents
Wednesdays are for Wellness! Every Wednesday, students are invited to visit our STEAM Cart at recess time for hands-on activities that support creativity, problem-solving, and emotional wellness. Each activity aligns directly with the Character Counts pillar of the month — Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship — helping students practice positive character traits through fun, engaging activities. These activities take place either outside at the STEAM Cart or if you don't see us outside - inside the Wellness Center!
Malibu Library - Did you know that at our local library they don't just have books to check out, but also Tools and Music Instruments? Maybe your child is interested in a musical instrument, but you're unsure about buying one before knowing if they are really going to stick with it - you can check one out from the Malibu Branch! You will need to sign up for a library card before you can check out the item and some items may need to be requested in advance. What a great service!
