Schwenksville Family Newsletter
December 8, 2023
Dear SW Families,
As we continue our shared journey to nurture a positive and enriching environment for our students, I would like to take a moment to emphasize the importance of a strong home and school partnership. At Schwenksville Elementary, we deeply value collaboration with our families and school community. Your insight and ideas are invaluable in helping us provide the best possible education and support for our students.
In the spirit of collaboration, I would like to encourage you to reach out directly to our dedicated team of educators, counselors, front office staff, or me with any questions or concerns you may have. While we recognize the widespread use of social media as a means of communication and voicing opinions and concerns, we believe that direct communication with us fosters a more effective and supportive relationship. Our staff is here to address any inquiries or issues you may encounter, and we are committed to working together to find solutions that benefit your child's educational experience.
By contacting us directly, we can provide accurate information and a timely response. This approach helps maintain a positive and cohesive community, where open dialogue is nurtured and misunderstandings and misinformation are minimized.
Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels safe, welcome, and valued at Schwenksville Elementary School. We appreciate the partnership we share with you in your child's education and well-being. Let us continue to build a strong foundation for our students by fostering open lines of communication and working together as a united community.
If you have ideas, suggestions, questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here for you. Wishing you and your families much happiness and joy during the holiday season.
Take care and be well.
With kind regards,
Mrs. Venza
Schwenksville Elementary School Principal

A Message From Our School Nurse
A Message from Mrs. Saks, School Nurse:
There have been some situations recently surrounding the administration of medications at school.
In general, please do not send any form of medication to school with your child (this includes any over-the -counter medications, ointments, creams and cough drops). Short term medications such as antibiotics and eye drops that require multiple doses throughout the day ideally should be administered before school, after school, and before bed—usually pediatricians
are ok with this dosing schedule.
If that dosing schedule cannot be accommodated, there are two options: 1) the medication permission form is required to be filled out and signed by the doctor, and medication should be brought in by the parent in its original container and left at school (students are not to be transporting medication to and from school). Or 2) a parent or designee can come in to administer the medication to the student .
Emergency medications (epi-pens, seizure medications, asthma inhalers) are to be brought in at the
beginning of the school year with the required paperwork. This paperwork needs to be renewed every year.
More detailed information is in the school handbook, or you may call me with any questions. Thank you for helping the school district keep our students healthy!
Special Area Spotlight
We will spotlight a special area class each week to share the amazing things that are happening in Art, Explorations, Library, Music, P.E., and Wellness classes.
What are students exploring in Library class with Mrs. Overholser?
In November it was Dinovember in the library! Our book displays were filled with books about dinosaurs. Both fiction and nonfiction books.
Kindergarten, and 1st grade classes read been reading fiction and nonfiction books about the same topic. We then discuss the what makes a book fiction or nonfiction.
2nd and 3rd grade classes learned how to choose a "Just Right Book". They learned that a just right book changes depending on what the purpose is for the book.
4th and 5th grade learned how to search for books using the library catalog and the signage around the library. For Veterans Day, 4th grade heard the book Twenty-One Steps, Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and 5th grade heard the story, America's White Table. Both grades also watched a video of the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Establishing A Culture of Connection
Dr. Krista Leh shared this presentation for PV's Path To Health and Wellness Series. She provided a very good explanation about what bullying is and focuses on ways to interrupt bullying and how to establish a culture of connection. Please check it out!
Thank you, SW Home & School Association!
Thank you very much to our Home & School Association for funding a wonderful assembly featuring Mr. Steven Courtney who performed a concert for us about kindness and friendship. Everyone enjoyed dancing and singing along. Mr. Courtney gave us very nice compliments about our students' manners during the performance.
Our Home & School Association and volunteers hosted a super fun Winter Dance for us last week! Our students had such a good time dancing, taking pictures in the photo booth, coloring, and making hot chocolate packets!
Thank you, Home & School Association for doing so much for us!
Speech Sounds for Each Letter of the Alphabet
This video demonstrates how to accurately pronounce each of the most common individual speech sounds for each letter of the alphabet. What’s important about the way the sounds are pronounced in this video is that these pronunciations make it easier for students to blend sounds together.
(This comes from The Six Shifts website by Jan Burkins and Kari Yates).
Safe Bus Riding Expectations
Please review our Bell 3 Safe Bus Riding Expectations with your child to help support a safe and pleasant ride to and from school for everyone.
- Sit with your back against the back of the seat with your feet in front of you.
- Stay seated at all times while on the bus. No one should be standing or out of their seat except when entering or exiting the bus. Even when the bus is parked in the bus loop waiting until it is time for school everyone should be seated until it is time to exit the bus.
- All belongings must stay in your backpack. This includes but is not limited to phones, games, toys, food and drinks, trading cards, and writing utensils/paper.
- Keep your hands, feet, and belongings to yourself.
- Speak in a level 1 volume to the people sitting directly around you.
- Follow the bus driver's directions.
Shoe Tying Video
This is a great video that offers a helpful shoe tying technique.
Please remind students to:
- make sure their shoes are tied before leaving home in the morning.
- make sure their shoes are tied before going into the hallways and using the stairs.
Cold Weather Attire
It has been quite chilly the past few days. Please be sure that your student comes to school with a coat, hat, gloves, etc. as we go out for recess every day, weather permitting. Recess is 30 minutes and that is a long time to be outside without a coat. Some students tell us that they are fine with just a sweatshirt and that they didn't bring a coat. We like for students to at least have their coat outside with them and available in the event they become cold.
Thank you for helping us to make sure students are warm while outside for recess.
Free Winter Coats
The cold weather is on its way! If you are in need of assistance with securing a new winter coat for your child, please complete the request form or reach out to our School Counselors, Mrs. Kent (Grades K, 2, & 4) or Mrs. Strano (Grades 1, 3, & 5).
Story Time With Maggie
Students love spending time with Maggie and she sure loves coming to school and having students read to her.
Our students are not the only ones who like to visit with a therapy dog! Our staff members do, too!
Mrs. Banaszynski, 1st grade teacher.
Mrs. Overholser, Librarian.
Mrs. Buckley, School Psychologist.
