Thinking About Summer
It's never too early to think about summer plans. Many summer programs begin registration now. If you're wondering whether a different type of program might make a good addition for your child this summer, please talk to your BCBA.
We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym in Novi shared the flyer below with details on their summer camp program.
Policy Reminder: Children's Dress Code
Children attending therapy must be dressed appropriately for the season and comfortably so that their clothing does not cause additional distractions. We know that children with Autism can struggle with a variety of sensory needs, and clothing can contribute to that struggle. Here are some things to keep in mind when dressing your child for therapy:
- Comfort over style! We don’t want children distracted by shoes that are too tight, tags that irritate, or a fabric that just doesn’t work for them. Dress your child in something he feels comfortable in, so that he can focus on what he’s here for.
- Kids get messy. Please do not send your child in his very best clothing; we participate in art projects daily, using paint, glue, glitter, shaving cream, and many other messy items. We want kids to focus on the experience, not their clothing. We always do our best to protect your child’s clothes with an art shirt, but kids will get messy here. Please don’t be upset.
- Please consider the weather. Our children will go outside for at least a part of almost every day, as our motor rooms require a short walk outside to access. We know sometimes children struggle to adjust to different clothing when seasons change, but please send jackets and other gear as needed, and we will work with your child on the adjustment if needed.
- Sandals and crocs are NOT ALLOWED. We have rolling chairs and stools, wood chips on our playgrounds, and climbing equipment indoors and out. Children MUST wear comfortable shoes that cover the entire foot, with no holes or openings that can allow toes to be injured or wood chips and dirt to get into the shoes. This includes sandals that cover the toes, but have openings on the side.
- Children MUST wear socks at all times. This is to protect their feet, if something should happen and their shoe falls off, is soiled, or otherwise removed.
- Parents are expected to provide 2 complete changes of season appropriate clothes to be kept at the center. This is to cover all those little surprises, messes, or accidents. This includes 2 pairs of socks and underwear. We will send the clothes home as the seasons change or if we notice your child has outgrown something so you may update them. We will send soiled clothes home in a plastic bag, and ask that you provide a replacement on the next therapy day.
