Dear Families!

With winter weather upon us, remember to be checking the Riceville Facebook page, TV and radio for updates of 2-hour delay, early dismissal or school cancellation.🎅🏼

A Note from Mrs. Suckow

At Riceville schools our staff is dedicated to educating the whole child and providing the best learning experiences to enhance their education. State assessments are one way that schools are measured and we are pleased to announce that both the elementary and the high school which includes the junior high students received an overall rating of commendable. Please visit our scores and results on the Iowa School Performance Profiles site to see how well we are doing. www.iaschoolperformance.gov.

A letter from Mrs. B!

Friday, December 9th, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are starting to see more illness throughout our school and community. Please follow our policy on when to keep children home from school. Temperatures of 100.4 degrees F and above will be sent home from school and should be kept home until fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications (Tylenol, Ibuprofen). Students with diarrhea or vomiting and unexplained rashes will also be sent home and should be kept home until symptom-free for a full 24 hours. Please have a back-up plan to pick up your child in the event you are out of town or

unable to be reached.

If a student returns to school after being sent home the previous day for a temperature of 100.4 degrees F or greater or other illness symptoms, please expect a call from school staff to pick up your child.

Potentially worrisome symptoms that would warrant a doctor's visit include (but not limited to):

  • High/persistent fever
  • Fatigue/excessive tiredness
  • Pink/red eyes with drainage
  • Persistent or worsening cough
  • Fast breathing or trouble breathing
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Persistent ear pain with or without drainage

Healthy habits that can help prevent the spread of germs and illness:

  • Stay home when ill
  • Frequent hand washing
  • Avoid touching your mouth and nose
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces
  • Coughing/sneezing into a tissue, not your hands
  • Avoid sharing used personal items like drinks and utensils

Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff members healthy and well.

High School Class McNeilus Tour High School Class McNeilus Tour

On Friday, December 2, the Welding, Physical Science, and Electricity classes toured the McNeilus plant in Riceville. The students were able to see how a flat piece of steel was formed into the parts needed to manufacture the back end of a garbage truck. They got to see the entire process of a flat piece of steel formed, welded, and painted to make a complete end assembly for the truck.
