CIS Weekly Updates
2024-2025: #1 August 26 - 30, 2024
Edition #2: August 31 - September 4, 2026
Principal's Message:
Welcome to September! Picture Day is set for Friday, September 11th, and we are looking for parent volunteers to help our students look camera-ready; please check the sign-up link if you can lend a hand. Please remember that any family wanting to volunteer for school events this year must complete a WCS Volunteer Form.
Our annual WIS Read-a-Thon runs from September 11th through September 21st! As our primary PTO fundraiser, 95% of the proceeds go directly back into supporting our school and students. Students will log their reading minutes to earn fantastic prizes, including prize cart visits, ice cream parties, and a chance to ride the Grizzly Pedal Bike to the Grizzly Arcade. You can set up your student's page and make flat-rate or per-minute donations at https://app.99pledges.com/fund/2026readWIS. Additionally, our next PTO meetings will be held on Thursday, September 10th, and Thursday, October 15th at 9:30 AM.
If you plan to purchase Chromebook insurance, the absolute deadline is Monday, September 22nd. School fees and insurance can be paid online via PaySchools. However, please note that online payments now incur a transaction fee (except for Food Service/Cafeteria deposits, which remain fee-free). Cash or checks made payable to Wadsworth City Schools are also accepted, but please send separate payments for children in different buildings.
Finally, we are continuing our weekend food bag program for students in need—your donations of non-perishable food items are deeply appreciated by our community. Thank you for your continued partnership!
Have a GREAT Week!
Brandon Cobb, Principal
PAYING SCHOOL FEES
Families are welcome to pay for school fees (instructional fee, Chromebook insurance, etc.) online via PaySchools. You can also send in Cash (exact change) or a Check made payable to Wadsworth City Schools. Please note: If sending in cash or a check, you must send in separate payments to each school building. You can not combine fees for multiple children in other buildings.
The last day to pay for Chromebook Insurance is September 22nd.
VOLUNTEER FORM
Anyone interested in volunteering at WCS for 2026-27 will need to complete a Volunteer Form. Volunteer opportunities include helping with picture day, activity nights, Turkey Trot, winterfest, field day, etc. These activities do not require you to be board-approved, but a form is still needed. If you'd like to be a Board-approved volunteer, please call the office directly so our secretary can discuss the cost and details.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
As school counselors, we deliver whole group counseling lessons once per month during your child’s library time (5th grade) or world language (6th grade). We are beginning our introduction lessons this week and next. During the lesson, students will take a Youth Needs Screener provided by our board-approved curriculum, Character Strong. We will teach about the role of a school counselor, and students will bookmark a Google Form Link that they can use to request to see their school counselor. We value communication. Please contact us at any time!

WIS BACK PACK CONNECTION
You can help! Throughout the year we collect food items listed below and send bags home over the weekend for students in need. Please consider helping in this way because our students and families really appreciate the extra food over the weekends.
Character Strong
We are so grateful you are a part of the school community this year. One of the aims at our school is to equip young people for all the realities of today’s world. With that in mind, we have partnered with CharacterStrong - an organization that provides training for educators and social & emotional learning curriculum for students. Their work will focus on 3 main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.
This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of social & emotional learning in schools to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, and increasing empathy for people and communities who have lived different lives than us. The curriculum helps students think about things they want to improve in their school, their relationships, and their world and then provides tools for them to work individually and in teams to close the gaps they’ve identified.
One of the key parts of nearly every lesson is the “CharacterDare” for students. These are invitations near the end of most lessons to put the content that they are learning into action in the real world. If you ever want to play an active role in the CharacterStrong curricula, simply ask your student about the most recent CharacterDare. Maybe they’ll invite you to try one yourself! To learn more about CharacterStrong, check out characterstrong.com to discover other resources for students and families.
