Next Week Is School Safety Week!
Next week is School Safety Week! October 19-23 is all about awareness, prevention, and preparedness in case of emergency. Keeping our students safe is our top priority, and we take that responsibility seriously every day.
You may see or hear of students and staff practicing:
Evacuation drills
Shelter and lockdown drills
Medical emergency response
To prevent any confusion during outdoor drills, staff members will carry "THIS IS A DRILL" signs. In the event of a real emergency, families would be notified as quickly as possible via phone call, text, email, AND the parent portal.

8th Grade Field Trip: MiCareer Quest
MiCareerQuest Southwest is a fun and exciting career investigation event designed for 8th-grade students across southwest Michigan. More than 5,000 students experience this interactive, informational, and inspiring career exploration event annually, and we are thrilled to be able to provide this experience in person. During this unique experience, students will explore careers in Healthcare and Agricultural Science, Engineering, Manufacturing, Professional Trades, and Information Technology and talk directly with industry professionals who perform these jobs every day. Students will discover what it's like to be a Radiologist or Respiratory Care Therapist, a Design Engineer or Graphic Designer, a Welder, CNC Machinist, Robotics Technician, or IT Support Specialists and many more exciting careers.
OMS Fundraiser
Dear Otsego Middle School Families,
Thank you for making our fundraiser a success so far. Your participation will directly help raise funds for Assemblies, Classroom Libraries, & Student Activities.
If you would like to donate, there is still time. Just click on this link: https://app.pop4kids.org/reg/code/AYH3M
Please log back into your personal donation page to ensure your student has reached their goal. Tokens are awarded throughout the fundraiser, so make sure your student uses their tokens on the Spin-to-Win game before the fundraiser ends. Every dollar raised makes a difference in the lives of our students! Please turn in cash and check donations in an envelope labeled with your students name to the main office by Monday, Oct. 26. Please make checks payable to Otsego Public Schools.
Thank you to all our families for making this program a huge success! Our staff and students appreciate you!
OMS Boys Basketball Tryouts
We are excited to announce that Otsego Middle School Boys Basketball Tryouts will take place October 26–28 in the middle school gymnasium. Tryout times will be 6th Grade: 3:00–4:30 p.m., 7th Grade: 4:00–5:30 p.m., and 8th Grade: 5:00–6:30 p.m. Students interested in trying out must complete the required registration and paperwork through Final Forms, including a current sports physical, parent and athlete forms, and payment of the athletics fee. Students should come prepared with shorts, a T-shirt, tennis shoes, and a water bottle. Practice will begin Thursday, October 29, with practices Monday–Friday and games typically scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays. We look forward to seeing our Bulldog athletes come out, compete, work hard, and represent Otsego Middle School!
Staff Member of the Week
OMS student's were emailed a "staff member of the week" nomination form at the beginning of the year. We will be honoring nominated staff members for the remainder of the year. The week's staff member of the week is Mrs. Edwards. Below are just a few of the reasons given by students for this nomination. Congratulation to our OMS Science Teacher Mrs. Edwards!
Mrs. Edwards was nominated as Staff Member of the Week because of the kindness, humor, and genuine care she brings to her classroom each day. Students describe her as an amazing teacher who goes out of her way to help students, makes learning fun, and creates an environment where everyone feels respected and supported. One student enthusiastically described Mrs. Edwards as “the GOAT,” sharing that she cares about her students, is hilarious, and is incredibly kind. Other students highlighted her willingness to help whenever she can and her ability to respect students' boundaries while making learning enjoyable. These comments reflect the strong relationships she builds with students and the positive atmosphere she creates in her science classroom. Mrs. Edwards reminds us that great teaching is about more than the subject being taught. It is about making connections, showing compassion, and helping students feel valued while encouraging them to learn and grow. Thank you, Mrs. Edwards, for bringing your humor, kindness, and passion for teaching to Otsego Middle School. Your students clearly appreciate you, and we are fortunate to have you as part of our Bulldog family!
After School Support
OMS is offering after school academic support this year Mon.-Thurs. (2:45 PM-3:45 PM) in the media center. This is a drop-in time for students to get extra help on assignments. Each week we will share the subject areas of expertise that will be present each day. We encourage students to take advantage of this time to get extra help if needed. Even if a student needs help in a subject that is not listed they are still welcome to come and get assistance.

Tuesday: Math
