Chelsea Center Guided Service Learning Experience Course
During the fall semester, the Chelsea Center piloted the Guided Service Learning Experience course wherein a cohort of students made their own impacts with several great organizations addressing local and regional issues. Students partnered with the World Bird Sanctuary, Great River Greenways, Webster Child Care Center, Lifewise StL, Open Space StL, the St. Louis Area Foodbank, and Big Muddy Adventures. Students are finishing the course with a collection of curated authentic experiences and work products demonstrating their initiative, problem-solving skills, and ability to create effective responses to community needs.
A highlight of the course was the trip with Big Muddy Adventures. Students partnered with Big Muddy Adventures to learn first-hand about river pollution and its effects on the ecosystem. Students floated to the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers and participated in a "Trash Bash" cleanup!
This class will be offered again in the Fall of 2026. Interested students should register for the Chelsea Center Guided Service Learning Experience course.
Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires.
