CELEBRATING VALENTINE'S DAY
We had a wonderful time celebrating Valentine’s Day this past Thursday! It was a day filled with creativity, fun, and lots of love. Our students and staff truly embraced the spirit of the day, and their imaginative Valentine boxes and cards were a highlight of the celebration.
From animals to vending machines, sports fields, and favorite characters, the creativity on display was incredible. Each box was unique and a true reflection of our students' personalities and talents!
In addition to the festive decorations, students also enjoyed delicious treats and participated in fun, themed activities throughout the day. It was a great opportunity for students to bond with their classmates and celebrate together.
Thank you for your continued support in making events like this such a success. We’re grateful for the joy and excitement it brings to our school community!
PLC AT WORK
At Gold Rush, we embrace the culture of a professional learning community. This means that our teachers regularly come together to collaborate and reflect on teaching and learning. Each week, teacher teams focus on four essential questions:
What do we want students to know and be able to do?
How will we know if students have mastered a standard/learning target?
How will we plan for enrichment?
How will we plan for reteaching and intervention?
Friday’s Professional Learning Day was an extension of this important work. Teachers gathered across grade levels to discuss how students are now independently implementing the SRSD (Self-Regulated Strategy Development) framework in writing. Teachers examined student analytical writing samples from across grade levels and shared the tools and strategies being used to build students’ independence with planning and organization.
Teachers were truly blown away by the growth students have made at every grade level since the beginning of the year. It was exciting to see how consistently students are applying these strategies and how their writing has strengthened over time.
In addition, teachers explored how the SRSD framework can be applied in math, particularly to help students make sense of word problems. By teaching students how to identify the “gist” of a problem and determine the “do what,” students are better able to understand what the problem is asking. Teachers also learned how using a beaded number line can help students create a visual model to solve problems.
We are always proud to celebrate our students’ hard work and growth, and we value opportunities to learn new strategies that support strong literacy and math instruction. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to support student learning at Gold Rush.
KINDNESS WEEK
We are excited to share that Gold Rush had an amazing Kindness Week! It was a week filled with school spirit, fun, and—most importantly—acts of kindness throughout our school community.
Each day, students were encouraged to participate in kindness challenges that inspired them to think of new ways to be kind to one another. Daily challenges included saying kind words, performing a kind deed, and thanking a fellow student or staff member. These simple actions made a big impact across our campus.
Members of our Young Rotarians Club helped motivate students by sharing kindness quotes and encouraging everyone to go above and beyond. Our school counselor, Mrs. Fitch, also supported Kindness Week by reading books about kindness—an activity our younger students especially enjoyed. It was truly heartwarming to see our students come together, spread kindness, and work toward making Gold Rush a safe, welcoming, and supportive place for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us foster a caring and compassionate school community. Thank you to all of our families for your continued support in making this event such a success!
