Project 351/Cradles to Crayons Clothing Drive
Alise Suarez is the Luther Burbank Middle School 8th grade Ambassador for Project 351, an independent nonprofit organization based in Massachusetts that focuses on leadership and community service. Project 351 is a statewide service initiative that invites selected 8th graders from across Massachusetts to participate in leadership development and community service projects.
As her first community service project of the year, she has organized a clothing drive to support Cradles to Crayons. She is collecting new or “gently used” clothing, shoes, or sneakers for adults and children. You are invited to look in your closets, drawers, and shelves at home for gently used clothing you no longer need, or hit a clearance rack and pick out a few things.
Any and ALL donations are greatly appreciated.
The donation bins will be located in the main office of both schools, MRE and Luther Burbank.
This clothing drive ends on April 10, 2025
Helping Kids Find Balance
Limiting Screen Time & Setting Healthy Guidelines
With technology playing a bigger role in our daily lives, finding the right balance for children can be challenging. That’s why we’re sharing two helpful articles: one on practical strategies to limit screen time and another on setting clear, effective guidelines for healthy device use. These resources will provide useful tips to encourage mindful screen habits while keeping kids engaged in other important activities. Check them out below!
Unstructured free play offers numerous benefits for students that screen time simply can't replicate.
It encourages creativity, problem-solving, and social skills while allowing kids to explore their interests at their own pace. Whether it's outdoor adventures, imaginative role-playing, or hands-on activities, free play fosters physical movement and cognitive development in ways that screens often limit. While technology has its place, making time for unstructured play helps kids build independence, resilience, and critical thinking skills—all essential for lifelong learning.
Strep Throat, Stomach Viruses and Colds
We are still seeing winter viruses such as common colds, strep throat and stomach viruses. This week we have seen an increase school wide in cases of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
If your child has developed these and/or a fever, they need to remain home from school for at least 24 hours without the use of medications. They also must have an improvement in their symptoms and are eating and drinking as they normally would. Please review the following for more information and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Common Illness Information
To learn more about illnesses that are common during this time of year, please see the following links: Stomach Virus, Common Respiratory Illness, Strep Throat, and Mycoplasma Pneumoniae. Please reach out to your child’s School Nurse with any further questions or concerns.
Additionally, COVID tests are available for home use at each of our schools. If you are interested in picking up an at-home test, please reach out to the Main Office at your school.
