National Hispanic Heritage Month

This month we recognize and acknowledge the many contributions and achievements of Hispanic Americans. National Hispanic Heritage month begins every year on September 15th and ends October 15th. During this time we intentionally highlight Hispanic culture, people and facts throughout the United States. This issue of the Counselor Corner features information about Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI). Hispanic-Serving Institutions are institutions of higher education that have an enrollment of at least 25% Hispanic students. To date, there are nearly 539 institutions nationwide designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions and can be found in 26 states. California tops the list of states with the most HSI's with 176, while Texas comes in second with 96, Puerto Rico has 60 and New York has 34. To explore a full list of HSI's follow this link.

WELCOME SARAH HAN

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in a school-based setting, I am dedicated to helping children and adolescents overcome challenges such as anxiety, depression, behavioral concerns, and life stressors. I believe childhood and adolescence are important times for growth, learning, and positive change. I support individuals during their formative years by building resilience, developing coping skills, strengthen relationships, and navigate challenges to help them thrive emotionally and academically.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, hiking, exploring antique stores, and visiting art museums.

Please reach out to your student's school counselor if you are interested in getting connected to services.

The college application season has arrived and we are sending a reminder of things you need to do to make the process go smoothly.

1 - Meet with your School Counselor - their links are provided below.

2 - Send your SAT or ACT scores - some colleges are test-optional, some schools allow self-reporting, but if not, you must send your scores to the colleges directly from the testing agency (ACT/SAT website).

3 - Complete the application - either through the college webpage, common application, or coalition application.

4 - Request your transcripts in Naviance - counselors can only send your transcript package to colleges if you make the request in Naviance.

5 - Request your teacher recommendation letters, in person - then in Naviance. Be sure to indicate your deadlines.

6 - Complete your essay and allow others to proofread your work.

7 - Complete the FERPA waiver in Naviance and in the Common application.

8 - Research scholarships.

9 - Be sure to allow at least 2 weeks for your transcript package to be sent to your colleges.
