Mrs. Donovan will be back with us. Welcome!

Adventure Book Bags Continue
It was wonderful to meet with so many of you on conference day this week. Thanks for all of your help at home. The Adventure Reading Bags seem to be going really well. Remember that many of the books (and others) can be found online in case you want an option to have others read a story aloud. And the Bennington Library also offers you a program for getting books read aloud. Please visit the library and ask about those options. If there is only one more thing that you can do to support your kids learning, it would be to add in more listening to stories. Happy Reading and Listening!! Mrs. Pope
Exploring Our World
Pierce Craft Fair Here We Come!
We teamed up with our wonderful fourth grade buddies to make adorable reindeer ornaments for the awesome Pierce School Craft Fair happening tomorrow! We also had a mysterious Mystery Science lesson exploring how things can glow in the dark, followed by a glow stick dance party! To wrap up the week, we created our very own tricky word books featuring the words one, two, and three. These special books will be coming home, and we would love for you to read them together!

Story Problems and Healthy Eating
First grade has been on a roll this week! We are getting ready to start new units in math, phonics AND comprehension/reading! They have been working hard and leveling up their learning! We had a special visit from 2nd grade where they shared some letters they wrote to our class to teach us all about what we get to look forward to this spring when we start the Cornucopia gardening program. We got to ask questions and can't wait for spring already!

Sparking Second Graders
The sparkling second graders are finishing up our Ancient Greek Civilizations unit and moving into our unit of Greek Myths. Using the Writing Process, the students wrote their own opinion paragraphs, about what made the ancient Greek civilization special. In math, the class is enjoying our new math unit of Measurement. They started by using different objects for non-standard tools and are now learning how to use centimeters as a standard unit to correctly measure items.
The highlight of the week was making ornaments to sell at the PTO Craft Fair! We hope to see you there!
A Word From Mrs. G
A Trip to Great Bay
This week third and fourth graders travelled to the Great Bay National Estuarine for a field trip. We spent the first part of the week learning what an estuary is and why it is such a unique water body and how it is considered a nursery for many marine species.
Students went to different parts of the Discovery Center and experienced what life was like for early colonists, or European settlers by visiting a Country Store, learning how they hunted, fished, and trapped, and heard a story about Tom Wiggin and his father.
They also learned about how Native Americans used the flora and fauna to survive in the region - which had an abundance of natural resources. We went inside a replica of a wigwam and sat on animal skins, scraped out a dugout canoe, and tried turkey and salmon jerky. Thank you to the chaperones who joined us.
The students are writing about their favorite experience at the bay. If you ever travel out to the region with your family, it is well worth the trip.
Mrs. Donovan is Back!
Hello! I'm glad to be back with the Black Bears. This week in the Library, we've started reading the 2026 Ladybug Book Award titles. This is a special program through the NH State Library. Next week, we'll finish the stories and vote on our favorites. All PK--4 elementary schools in NH can participate, and the winning book is announced in the spring.
We're also beginning our Digital Citizenship lessons. We say that being a digital citizen is knowing how to be safe, responsible, and respectful when we use the Internet. These are whole-group lessons from CommonSense Media, designed for students in grades K-12. Each time we have a library week, we'll continue learning together.
All of our readers have been enjoying the book browse and share time each day. Lots of books are being checked out to enjoy in the classroom or at home.
Spend some time reading together!
