Wildwood Elementary
Remote Learning Starts Monday, April 20th!
As little as six weeks ago, who would have guessed our global society would be turned upside down as we unite to overcome the impact of Covid-19? Who would have guessed Zoom conferencing would elevate into the communication resource we rely on to talk with co-workers, classmates and teachers, and loved ones? Who would have guessed that families would be called upon to fill in as their child’s teacher?
Despite these changes, I find great encouragement seeing our Wildwood families unite and work together as we continue this unexpected journey. I am incredibly proud of the work parents and families are doing to set up learning spaces at home and to find time in the day for school. I am thrilled to see our scholars adjusting to new learning routines and expectations. I am encouraged to see our teachers diving into new technologies such as Zoom and Canvas Web sites to drive Remote Learning practices. Closing schools did not enter any of our thoughts six weeks ago and we all wish closing schools wasn’t a reality. With that said, all of us at Wildwood Elementary are in this journey together and this period will pass.
Hopefully you’ve reviewed Superintendent Campbell’s memo sharing Federal Way Schools are now moving into Remote Learning for the remainder of the school year (https://www.fwps.org/Page/7537). In Dr. Campbell’s memo, these are the steps we will be implementing beginning Monday, April 20th:
* Every Monday, teachers will email the following:
- the week’s lessons and activities
- Zoom link or video that explains the activities for the week to parents
- Zoom link invite for students and families to come together for a live class meeting and to answer any questions (all Kinder-2nd grades will be on Tuesdays and all 3rd-5th grades will be on Thursdays)
* Teachers will also offer online office hours and/or provide feedback to students as they complete the lessons/activities.
* Teachers will be available during normal school hours by email, Remind app (text or voice), and Zoom (by request). Outside of normal school hours, all emails will be returned within 24 hours.
* I will email my weekly newsletter on Fridays. You are also more than welcome to contact me at sjackson@fwps.org or at (253) 329-7999 (text or voice) if you ever have any questions or concerns.
I do wish each Scholar, Staff Member, and Family member of our Wildwood family health, happiness, and grace in the days to come. The staff of Wildwood misses our Wildcats fiercely and we miss doing what we are meant to do – to teach and grow our kids.
In partnership,
Sarah Jackson

Message From the Counselor!
Hello Wildwood Wildcats!
We Really miss all of our Wildcats and that is you! That is why we as a school will be reaching out to you weekly in many ways from Wildwood.
It has been a big change that we are all going through. However, that is what life is all about, adapting and making positive things happen when faced with challenges. Which brings me to PAWS...
What does PAWS look like at home? Now that you are at home, it is my hope that you will be using PAWS.
Our First Letter in our PAWS is “P”
P is the letter of today which stands for.....
Problem Solve: That you will be actively using your Kelso’s Choices for small problems you know you can solve on your own. This could mean you taking turns when playing games with younger siblings, sharing meals or snacks and making a deal around planning to do chores together. Just enjoying this time to spend quality family time together.
A Family Game to Play: Guess which emotion I am ?– Each family member takes turns acting out role plays while guessing each other’s emotions. Use your imagination and be creative in adding other categories to act out. Have fun as a family!
Ways to Calm Down: Go to a comfortable place. Close your eyes, take 3 or 4 deep breaths. Use your creativity mind, focus your thoughts on what brings you peace, joy, and happiness.
Exercise Daily: Did you know your brain works best after you exercise. Exercise helps you pump more oxygen and nutrients to your brain. So include exercise on your daily schedule.
Kelso's Choices: Remember when you are home with your family and conflict may arise. It is not only about how you feel. It is also about how they feel, you may need to see the conflict from some one else’s point of view. Compromise works best with siblings. Following the rules and taking responsibility works best with parents.
Toolbox: Your toolbox are the supports you have available to you to help you solve problems and work through conflicts.
Question: What is in your toolbox today?
Answer: Today we talked about Kelso Choices, For example share and take turns and Making a deal to compromise with others.
Positive Self-Talk: My life is different now.
Change is a natural part of life just like the waves go up and down in the ocean our life also moves in unexpected ways too.
“I can go with the flow and learn new things”
Finally, my message to you is: You Matter to us.
Stay happy and Healthy,
Ms. Davis
