Dear Families,

As the days grow longer and the weather begins to shift, we can feel a new energy throughout the halls of Winchester Avenue. While spring often brings a sense of excitement and "spring fever," this is also one of our most critical periods for academic endurance.

Building Stamina Just like an athlete training for a big race, our students are currently building their "academic stamina." Whether it is tackling longer reading passages or solving multi-step math problems, we are pushing our Owls to stay focused and put forth their best effort. You can help at home by maintaining consistent bedtime routines and discussing what they learned each day.

The Final Push for Testing Our diagnostic testing will take place the last couple of weeks in April. These assessments are a chance for our students to show off everything they have mastered this year. We want them to approach these days with confidence, not stress. Remind your child that they are well-prepared and that we simply want to see them do their personal best!

Celebrating the Journey While we are focused on goals, we are also taking time to celebrate the small wins. From a student mastering a new reading level to a class showing exceptional kindness on the playground, these moments make Winchester Avenue a special place to learn.

We have a busy and productive stretch ahead of us. Thank you for being our partners in your child’s education and for helping us keep the momentum going through the end of the year.

Go Owls! 🦉

Warmly, Ms. Ballard

Our Instructional Focuses Our Instructional Focuses

High Impact Instructional Practices focus on ensuring all instruction is purposeful, rigorous, and student-centered. Lessons are aligned to grade-level standards and include clear, visible objectives that identify both what students must know and how they will apply that knowledge. Instruction intentionally builds academic vocabulary through curriculum-based opportunities for exploration and understanding.Teachers support students in moving from teacher-led instruction to independent learning through inquiry and gradual release. Finally, students are provided opportunities to integrate learning and produce original work by synthesizing information from multiple sources—building purpose, power, and practice in every classroom.
