Update from the Board of Education Regarding the Building Exterior Update from the Board of Education Regarding the Building Exterior

Dear Families,

We are writing to share that there was damage to a portion of the exterior brick on one of our school buildings. This occurred several weeks ago, and on behalf of the Board of Education and district leadership team we want to assure you that there is no structural damage and no one was injured.

Repairs are planned and will be completed as soon as weather conditions allow. The area continues to be monitored to ensure safety.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Social Emotional Screener the week of February 2nd Social Emotional Screener the week of February 2nd

Each year, we work to make sure every student in our school receives the support they need to achieve success and experience positive outcomes on our campus. Ongoing screening in both academic and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning can identify students that need additional support to increase their academic performance and improve overall well-being.

Screening tools help school staff develop effective plans and allocate resources at the school, class, and individual levels. During the week of February 2nd, we will administer an SEL screener to all students in grades 3-8. JH students will take the Youth Needs Screener and 3rd and 4th graders will take Waypoints.

The results will be used as one data point in a proactive process that supports students with organizational strategies, social skills, coping strategies, and other supports that help them fully engage in their learning. Should our team identify your child as needing additional support, you will be notified just as you would with academic interventions.

We encourage every child to participate in the SEL Screeners as it gives us important information about addressing common needs at the school level and how to best support each student in our school.

If you decide that you would like to have your child not participate in the screener, please email your child’s building principal with your child's name and grade, Jordan Master (jmaster@dist46.org) or Jessica McKenzie (jmckenzie@dist46.org) by Friday, January 30th.

We appreciate the ongoing partnership with our families to ensure all students receive what they need and can experience success at Prairie Grove District 46.

Attendance Letters Attendance Letters

As part of our commitment to supporting every student’s success, we regularly review attendance throughout the school year. Families will soon receive letters if their child has missed 10% (9 days) or more of the school year as of the Trimester 2 midterm or received a previous letter and now has 15% or more of the school year. These notifications are meant to keep you informed and to offer support if your family is facing challenges that make regular attendance difficult.

Please know that this is not a punishment and does not mean we have contacted truancy, but this is a proactive step to ensure students stay on track academically and feel connected at school. If you receive a letter and have any questions, please feel free to reach out and we can work together to support your child.

Thank you for your partnership in helping our students thrive every day!

Tracy Piotrowski - SPED Teacher

Tell us about your family.

My family includes my husband, Tony, and our two sons, Travis and Trey. Our family continues to grow, as both of our sons are now engaged. Last year, we were also blessed with the arrival of our grandson, Jayten Peter, who has truly become the light of our world. The holidays, especially Christmas, were even more special with him as part of our celebrations.

Both Travis and Trey attended Prairie Grove K–8 and later graduated from Prairie Ridge and the University of Illinois, where they were members of the wrestling team. I credit much of their academic success in both high school and college to the strong foundation they received during their nine years at Prairie Grove.

What is something that makes you really proud?

One of the things that makes me most proud is seeing my former students succeed in high school and beyond. Having taught junior high special education for many years, it is especially meaningful when students return to share the positive experiences they are having as high school students or young adults.

A long-standing goal of mine has been to help students build confidence so they feel comfortable being social and advocating for their own needs. When they are able to overcome the challenges associated with their disabilities and use the skills they have learned to support their own success in life, that is when I feel most proud.

What is your favorite hobby?

I love listening to audiobooks or podcasts while going for walks. It’s a great way for me to learn something new or finish a book for my book club while also getting my daily steps in. I enjoy combining these activities, and it feels like a win for both my body and my brain.

What is your favorite food?

I don’t have them often, but I LOVE smashburgers!

What is something you have learned lately?

Right now, I am learning calligraphy. A friend of mine inspired me to give it a try, and I’ve found it to be both relaxing and calming. As an added bonus, it will also come in handy as I help plan my son’s wedding this November.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

If I were an animal, I would be my cousin’s dog, Darby. He is happily spoiled and gets to travel all over the country with my cousin and her husband. They affectionately call him “zero help,” but really, he’s just a free-spirited, pampered pup. And honestly…..who wouldn’t want to be loved and doted on like that?

What is your favorite thing about Prairie Grove?

My favorite thing about Prairie Grove is that it truly feels like home. While living in the community may add to that feeling, it’s the dedication of the staff to creating a welcoming, supportive environment that really makes the difference. Prairie Grove is a truly special place to be.

I’m married to JoEllen (almost 20 years). We have two boys, Henry (17) and Charles (14).

What is something that makes you really proud?

My children can function as responsible and respectful citizens outside of my home.

What is your favorite hobby?

Yoga.

What is your favorite food?

Pizza

What is something you have learned lately?

Students make great teachers. They are helping me learn how I might be a more effective educator, every day.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

Dolphin. I love swimming in the ocean.

What is your favorite thing about Prairie Grove?

The staff at Prairie Grove are supportive and show up to work with a great attitude.

Perfect role models for a new teacher.
