September
Welcome to Our Classroom Updates! We're excited to share what we've been working on and what’s coming up next in our learning adventures. Thank you for partnering with us as we grow and learn together!
✏️ Literacy Knowledge Focus We’ve been expanding our vocabulary and building background knowledge by exploring: Nursery rhymes and fables Parts of a book Parts of a story: main character, events, problem, and solution We’ve also had thoughtful discussions about the morals in different fables. Research shows that background knowledge is just as essential as letter-sound recognition in becoming a strong reader. It helps children make connections, understand texts, and build a strong foundation for future learning. Coming up next: The Five Senses Skills Focus We’re practicing: Letter names and sounds Syllables Differentiating between letters, words, and sentences Pencil grip and correct letter/number formation Many students are beginning to decode simple words—way to go! Coming up next: Writing simple sentences as we continue building literacy skills. ➕ Math We’ve been busy developing our number sense and early math skills. So far, we’ve worked on: Counting to 20 Understanding number values and cardinality Sorting, grouping, and identifying patterns Comparing objects (longer/shorter, taller/shorter, big/small) Coming up next: Subitizing to 5 (recognizing quantities without counting) Counting to 30 Comparing numbers: “one more” and “one less” Introduction to basic addition and subtraction 🌍 Social Studies Our social studies focus has been on: Kindness and friendship Respecting personal space (our “personal bubble”) Classroom and school expectations Coming up next: Learning about diversity and celebrating what makes us unique! 🔬 Science We’re exited about exploring the five senses through hands-on experiments and engaging activities. Students are learning how we use sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing to explore and understand the world around us.
