TE Bell Schedule

7:40 am 8:05 is arrival. Students can enter the building. Breakfast available.

8:05 am Tardy. All students should be in class and ready to start their day.

3:05 pm Dismissal. Students will be dismissed by bus, car or walker.

Dear Turner Elementary Families,

Thank you to all the families who attended parent-teacher conferences in October! We appreciate the opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress and work together on their next steps. Thank you also to everyone who volunteered to help with our classroom fall parties. Your time and support help make these celebrations special for our students.

We have two music programs coming up this month and look forward to welcoming families back into the building to enjoy our students’ hard work and talents!

BOOST after-school tutoring has kicked off! We are excited to provide targeted intervention and additional practice to help participating students close learning gaps, strengthen their skills, and build confidence.

We did not meet our October attendance goal, and we need your help as we move into November. Along with attending school regularly, arriving on time is especially important. Each day begins with morning meetings, where students build connections, practice social and emotional skills, and prepare for learning. When students arrive late, they miss this important time that helps set their day up for success.

During our November 9 professional development day, staff will continue training on our new reading resource, Magnetic Literacy, and focus on our school improvement goals. This time allows our teachers to strengthen instruction and plan for students’ needs.

With cooler weather here, please send your child with a coat or jacket and write their name inside so we can return misplaced items.

As we enter this season of gratitude, thank you for your continued partnership. We are grateful for our Turner Elementary students and families!

Make Homework a Priority

Each night, Turner Elementary students should be working toward their end-of-year learning goals for their grade level, as listed in the flyer above.

Practicing Super Words, reading each night, and studying math facts are some of the best ways to build the foundational skills students need to be successful in school.

We will celebrate students who achieve end of the year goals on our weekly video announcements, including prizes! Students may also receive surprise rewards throughout the year for their hard work at home to achieve these goals!

Thank you for making homework a priority and for partnering with us to support your child’s learning and growth!

School Visitors

Visitors

All exterior doors at Turner Elementary are locked when students are in attendance. For any visitor to gain access to the building, the buzzer system located at the front door of the school must be used. Office staff will greet visitors through the intercom system and will ask the visitor to provide information regarding his/her visit. At this time, all visitors will be asked to provide a government issued photo I.D. Office staff will determine if entry to the school will be granted.

Once entry to the school has been provided, please note the below expectations of our visitors.

  • All visitors will be required to submit their I.D. through the Raptor Visitor System. A visitor badge will be provided by the office and must visible at all times.
  • Before leaving, all visitors will be required to sign out of the office and turn in their visitor sticker to the school secretary.

Student Appointments

You may call ahead to the office to limit wait time if you need to pick your student up for an appointment. Please come into the office to check out your student. Students will not be released from the office after 2:45pm.

Car Rider Parents

A reminder, students need time to transition from the car, to their locker to unload all of their items and be in the classroom ready to learn, BEFORE the 8:05 bell. Please plan your dropoff accordingly.

Lets work hard to meet our November goal! Lets work hard to meet our November goal!

Turner Elementary starts promptly at 8:05 am. If your child will be tardy to school, parents must park and walk their child into the office to check them in.

The Turner School District grants every student ten excused absences for the school year. These absences must be authorized by a parent/guardian and may be for reasons such as illness, bereavement, appointments, or parental discretion.

Any additional absences must be accompanied by a doctor's note, or will be counted as an UNEXCUSED absence. Unexcused absences become subject to the truancy law outlined below:

Turner Unified School District 202 Board of Education Policy and the Kansas Compulsory Attendance Statute define truancy as a student who accumulates: 3 consecutive unexcused absences; or 5 unexcused absences within a semester; or 7 unexcused absences during a school year. Truant students under the age of 18 MUST be reported to the District Attorney's Office.

⏰ Attendance Matters

  • Missing just 2 days a month = nearly 1 whole month of learning lost each year.

  • Students who miss 10% or more of school (18+ days) are considered chronically absent.

Why Attendance Matters:

  • Students with strong attendance are more likely to read on grade level.

  • They build stronger friendships and routines.

  • Good attendance in elementary = higher chances of graduating high school on time.

How Families Can Help:

✅ Set consistent bedtimes and morning routines.
✅ Schedule appointments/travel outside school hours when possible.
✅ Call the school if your child must be absent — we’re here to help problem-solve.
