Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
As we wrap up the fourth week of school, it’s important to note that we are approaching the midterm of our first quarter. Time moves quickly, so it’s important that we work with our families to make sure our high school students are passing classes and are in good academic standing as we head towards the end of the quarter on October 15th. As a reminder, getting a student ready to graduate high school starts with being here and passing their classes. We need your help with this, families.
As today is a Day of Remembrance for 9/11, our staff members took a little extra time this week to help our younger generations understand a little about what this day means for our country. At 8:45 a.m., we read a statement about 9/11 and at 8:46 a.m., the exact time the first plane hit the first tower, we observed a moment of silence.
This week in classrooms, our social studies teachers and students read personal stories of 9/11 survivors, watched an account of 9/11 from different perspectives of Americans and worked in groups to share the findings, and studied the new Netflix Documentary, Turning Point: Generation 9/11. Students who watched this documentary will have a follow up next week where they will be looking at an interactive timeline of events of the day and really exploring the personal connections to this event. As our young people in high school continue to get further and further away from having any personal connections to the importance of this day, our teachers here at BHS continue to work with our students to help reiterate the importance of never forgetting.
Next week will be filled with homecoming festivities. Be sure to check out the “Important Dates” section below to keep up with what’s happening throughout the week. As a reminder, students must be eligible, have school fees paid, and have good attendance to be able to attend the dance.
We hope you all have a great weekend, and we will see our BHS students back on Monday to kick off homecoming week!
In service to our Bulldogs.

#EveryBulldogEveryDay
Hi, Bulldog Families.
We are off to a great start with our overall attendance rate. Please make sure to report a student's absence if they are not attending school that day. If we have no contact from a guardian and don’t know why they are not in attendance this may require a safety and wellness check. The Batavia police department and the school work together to do home visits weekly.
Go Bulldogs!

Hello, Families.
As we complete our 4th week of school, students are starting to settle in with their routines. Next week will be filled with homecoming activities during spirit week. Students are encouraged to participate in each of the days’ activities that lead up to Friday’s football game.
As a reminder, students must be eligible from the 4th quarter of 2026 to participate in the homecoming dance. School fees must be paid before students can purchase a ticket. Lastly, students that have accumulated five or more unexcused tardies will need to serve either a one hour Friday or Saturday school before attending the dance. Overall, students have been doing a really good job of getting to school on time in the mornings.
If a student still needs a parking pass as they get their driver’s license, have them email me.
Thank you,
Joe Moorehead, Dean of Students
