This week, DKHS hosted events every night of the week. District basketball on Monday and Wednesday, and tonight’s district championship game between Pewamo-Westphalia and our DK Panthers. On Tuesday, we honored our senior basketball players from the girls' team. Thank you, seniors, for all you have given to our program and the way you have represented DK with your positive character all year. We will miss you. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, our Follies performances happen with several acts and some tremendous talent on display. Saturday, our Competitive Cheer team goes to Regionals at Hudsonville after setting a new school record last week at Districts. We also have 4 wrestlers headed to Ford Field and the State Finals next week. Congratulations to Micthell Swift, Mason Ferris, Griffyn Harmon, and Evan Stampfler on getting to State.

This week, we covered the new Panther Tracks with our current 9th-11th graders and will begin scheduling with our juniors first and then work down to our current freshmen. You can look at the Panther Tracks document below and also see our course description guide.

In our new Panther Tracks, kids will be declaring either a trades-based, college prep, or college prep honors track connected to their current career plans. These can change during their high school career, but the tracks will guide them to the course choices that will best prepare them for that career goal. We will have new weighting for our advanced classes with AP moving to a 1.0 GPA bump and new honors level courses getting a .5 GPA increase. In the trades-based path, kids will pick a CTE pathway in either FPME (Future Proud Michigan Educators), Allied Health, Ag Science, Welding, EMT, or manufacturing. This is a continuation of our efforts to make learning Real and Relevant for our DK students.

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to watch our band in the MSBOA Festival at Hastings High School. I’m amazed by the quality of sound they can put out with 35 members. They scored a 1 overall, which is the top score you can earn. In addition to their superb musicianship, I’m proud of how they represented all of DK with the character they displayed. Congratulations, DK band, and good job Mrs Knight. You crushed it on the sight-reading competition. Thursday, I attended the opening night for Follies, and I was once again blown away by the talent on display. All of our talented musicians, funny and engaging MC’s, both kicklines, and some entertaining skits made for a great night out and a quality show. Shout out to our directors, Nicole Krzebietke and Noelle Vroegop, and all the cast and crew. Still have time to catch the show tonight and Saturday at 7 PM, with a noon matinee on Saturday.

It is hard to believe, but spring sports are just around the corner with a March 9 start for most teams. Athletes are reminded to have a current physical on file and all other necessary documents uploaded to Final Forms.

STAFF WELLNESS CART STAFF WELLNESS CART

The staff wellness cart made its return to the halls of DKHS, led by a group of Allied Health students. Students were excited to plan and implement this month's theme "Love Your Heart" to honor staff through personalized notes of gratitude and healthy snack options. Staff wellness initiatives are planned each month through the rest of the school year, each having a theme to encourage healthy behaviors. This encourages students considering a health career to be leaders and role models in health promotion activities.

This year, we have decided to sell coffee or cocoa to our non-coffee friends. There are decaf, medium, dark, ground, whole bean, K-Cups, pumpkin spice, and vanilla flavors. Please consider your next coffee order to be through us. Here is the link where you can purchase coffee. If you would like to avoid the shipping fee, message Ms Hebenstreit (patricia.hebenstreit@dkschools.org) or get in contact with an FFA student or spend over $45 online.

WELDING COMPETITION WELDING COMPETITION

We have some friendly competition between 1st and 4th hour welding classes where 1st hour is making a 'race car' and 4th hour is making a 'motorcycle' both out of items found in the shop as well as donated items.

ASTRONOMY CLASS ASTRONOMY CLASS

Our Delton Kellogg High School students created their own glowing celestial dome with heavy-duty plastic (think garbage-bag tough) and duct tape. They carefully poked constellations into the ceiling, then dove inside for two unforgettable days: crunching snacks, listening to dreamy space music, and letting the audiobook Constellations and Their Myths paint stories across the stars right above their heads. Homemade galaxy? Mission accomplished!

BAND FESTIVAL BAND FESTIVAL

Here is our DKHS Concert Band performing Heartland March (Randall Standridge), Blessing Wind (Yukiko Nishimura) and The Cave You Fear (Michael Markowski) at Hastings on Wednesday at Band Festival. What a great performance, earning an overall 1 rating! What's not recorded is their sight reading portion where they only have 5 minutes to run through a piece they've never seen before and perform it for a judge. They earned many outstanding compliments. Great job DK!
