Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings, Hembree Families,
Excitement is in the air at Hembree Springs!
This week, our kindergarten students wowed us with their musical performance, “No Turkey for Perky.” A huge shout-out to Jennifer Slay for her incredible hard work and dedication in making this event so special for our students.
Next up, we’re counting down to our Thanksgiving Feast, Art Show, and Book Fair on Wednesday, November 19th—one of our favorite traditions! I can’t wait to see you all there. Below, you’ll find two flyers with all the details:
- One includes a QR code for purchasing your meal.
- The other outlines the grade-level schedule so you can plan your visit around the Art Show and Book Fair.
A big thank you to Laura Stowers, our amazing Art teacher, for guiding students in creating the beautiful pieces you’ll see on display. And kudos to Jenny Soberanis for her hard work setting up and running the Book Fair. Our staff truly makes Hembree Springs an inspiring place for kids to learn and grow!
Celebrating Success!
I’m thrilled to share that the state has officially released our CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance Index) results from the 2025 Georgia Milestones—and we have so much to celebrate!
- We were recognized for growth in 4th and 5th grade math.
- Plus, we saw gains in almost every area!
One area we’re still working on is attendance. Did you know that even excused absences count against our attendance rate? While we never want sick children at school, please remember that students in grades K–5 can request a remote learning day for illness or time off. You can request up to 5 days per semester, as long as work is completed and submitted within 5 days of the absence. This helps us meet our goals and keep learning on track. Thank you for doing your best to ensure your child is here—attendance matters for continued growth!
On a personal note…
I was relieved about last weekend’s game against Mississippi State—finally a stress-free win! I’m even more excited for this weekend because I’ll be at the game. Texas will be a tough competitor, but it’s going to be a great matchup. Go Dawgs!!
Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!
Warm Regards,
Nancy Lahey

Hearts of Hawks Update!
Thank you, Hawk families, for your incredible support of our Hearts of Hawks collection drive! Our Student Council Ambassadors led this effort to help children in Jamaica who were impacted by the recent hurricane, and thanks to your generosity, we collected an amazing amount of canned foods, baby items, and non-perishable snacks.
Your donations will make a meaningful difference for children and families in need. We are so proud of our students for showing compassion and demonstrating what it truly means to be a Hawk with heart.
Thank you for helping our kids help other kids!

Student Success Skills for November
Student Success Skills – Self Management
One important skill for all children to learn is self-control and how to manage their strong emotions. A child needs to learn how to manage their strong feelings without having a tantrum, hitting, yelling, or crying easily. When a child has good self-control, they make friends more easily and are more successful in school. Self-control helps kids think before they act. A child with good self-control is more resistant to peer pressure.
At home, you can help your child practice self-control by discussing and modeling ways to calm down if they start feeling strong emotions. You can discuss and practice together the TAKE 5 method:
Take five deep breaths.
Count to five on your fingers
Slowly count to five in your head.
Close your eyes and picture the hands of a clock moving five ticks
Put your head down and count to five.
Write these steps down and post them somewhere they can see them. Model the TAKE 5 strategies yourself when you are feeling angry about something. The next time your child gets mad – do the TAKE 5 steps together.
Family Engagement Thursdays
Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!

All Stars Wanted
Each week the PE department will choose 4 All Star Athletes (2 students & 2 staff members). If your student enjoys hiking, swimming, baseball, softball, football, biking, etc. Please email a picture to marzetti@fultonschools.org.
Thanks,
Ms. Marzetti
