District Calendar 2025-2026
CMAS Testing
On Wednesday, April 2nd, Thursday, April 3rd, and Friday, April 4th, all middle school students will take the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS). These specific assessments will include three units of English language arts and three units of mathematics. The schedule has been built so that each student will take no more than two units per day over the course of three days. Students should come to school on Tuesday the 1st with their computers and chargers so that they can leave them plugged in at school overnight. These assessments are a snapshot of an individual student’s mastery of Colorado’s academic state standards. In addition, teachers use this assessment data to improve their instruction. Lastly, these assessments lead up to the high school PSAT and SAT. Ultimately, we want to ensure all students are college and/or career ready once they graduate from high school. Please support our testing of students by making certain they are on time, well rested, and fed. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact John Trinca at jtrinca@gunnisonschools.net.

Logistics
Student Pick-Up During the School Day
In an effort to alleviate disruptions to classroom learning, if you need to pick up your child during the school day, please do your best to utilize a passing period. We understand that this may not always be possible, but when it is, it really benefits our learning environment. Check the bell schedule HERE. Thanks for your help and support!
Attendance
Please email CBSSattendance@gunnisonschools.net if your student will be absent or needs to miss any classes. Per the student handbook, please note that students who are more than 25 minutes late to class without a call or email from a guardian will be marked as an unexcused absence for that period.

School Messenger: Text Messaging
Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages, straight to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more. You can participate in this service by sending a text message of "yes" to our school's short code number 67587. You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of the messages with "stop." SchoolMessenger is compliant with the Student Privacy Pledge, so you can rest assured that your information is safe and will never be given or sold to anyone.
Halo Smart Sensor Monitors
We take safety seriously at CBSS and we are committed to providing a safe, substance free school. The Halo Smart Sensor not only measures air quality (like CO2 and NO2), but can also detect nicotine and THC vapes. These tools are present to help us meet our goal of ensuring a substance free school. If you would like to have more information, or have questions, please contact the office to set up a meeting with Mr. McCune, or email him at smccune@gunnisonschools.net with your questions.
