Setting Goals for 2020 Setting Goals for 2020

We are off to a great 2020! The new year brings with it hope and inspiration as we set goals for ourselves as adults and as a school community. We are working hard this year in our grade-level PLC (Professional Learning Community) work to have conversations about students and their growth on a regular basis. Schweitzer teachers meet with their grade-level teams twice a week for 30 minutes to discuss student performance utilizing formative and summative assessments as well as district benchmark assessments. The goal is to understand strengths/weaknesses of our students and better inform our instruction so that we differentiate and meet the needs of all of our learners.

In this process, teachers are continually assisting students in setting reasonable goals for themselves and supporting them to reflect on their success. You can also help your child set personal and academic goals as well!

Here are some tips on helping your child set goals for him/herself:

  • 1. Define What a "Goal" Means.
  • 2. Teach the Importance of Goal Setting.
  • 3. Teach Your Child How to Set Realistic Goals.
  • 4. Develop a Method to Achieve the Goal.
    5. Model Goal Setting and specific areas you are working on as an adult.

  • It is incredibly important to help our children develop perseverance in reaching their goals to help them understand that feeling challenged is part of the learning process. It's important that children are not afraid to ask questions as they learn and for them to have important 'Check-Ins' along the way. Maybe your child is building their reading stamina at home, maybe they are trying to ace a skill at a sport they're participating in such as soccer or basketball. Either way, your support in helping them set goals for themselves is a great lifelong lesson that will help them in everything they do! Best wishes for a safe and happy 2020!

Tutoring Available for Select Students Tutoring Available for Select Students

Select students have been offered morning tutoring at Albert Schweitzer from 8:20-8:50 on Monday or Tuesday mornings. Students were selected based on assessment data to provide additional academic support by the classroom teacher. Not all classroom teachers are able to offer tutoring as some are part of our Monday and Tuesday Morning committees such as the SWPBIS Tier 2 team and the ESAP (Elementary Student Assistance) team. However, we are happy to provide additional help to students to support instruction.

Morning Announcements go LIVE at Schweitzer Morning Announcements go LIVE at Schweitzer

Every Friday students are now going LIVE with our morning announcements. We would like to give a SHOUT out to Mr. Gosser for helping us get our own Schweitzer channel and getting started with the technology to air live announcements. To start, we are doing LIVE announcements on Fridays. We hope to eventually branch to doing them every day with the help of students and staff. We are proud of our Schweitzer Lioncast!

Neshaminy Piloting Two Math Programs Neshaminy Piloting Two Math Programs

The Neshaminy School District is currently piloting two new math programs for our elementary students. There are two teachers in each grade level K-4 at every building piloting one of two programs: Into Math and Ready Classroom. Teachers have been working hard all year receiving training and implementing both programs with fidelity in our elementary classrooms.

Teachers have been developing number sense, fact fluency, computation, and mathematical thinking to solving problems in a variety of ways. Children are engaged with more writing to communicate their thinking about math. We are looking forward to selecting one of the two programs to implement in all classrooms K-4 for the 20-21 school year.

    Sunset Challenge Sunset Challenge

The #StandUp Neshaminy Sunset Challenge 2K/5K is coming to Langhorne on May 1st! This race is one part of a wide-ranging community effort to fight the epidemic of opioid abuse through education at all grade levels, sponsorship of clubs and activities that promote healthy life choices, and sharing help resources for those suffering from addiction and their families.

The second annual Sunset Challenge 5k / 2k will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Maple Point Middle School in Langhorne, PA. This family-friendly run will feature a new circular course for the 5k race that uses a brand new paved trail installed by Middletown Township this year, and winds through Middletown Community Park before returning to Maple Point. The 2k course remains on Maple Point’s extensive property.

Registration opens January 17 and early birds will be treated to discounts, so don’t wait! The registration website can be found at www.sunsetchallenge.org.
