A Message From Principal Glenn
August 1, 2025
What an Amazing Start!
We had a fantastic first two days of school! It was a joy to see our students’ smiles, excitement, and energy as they connected with teachers, found their way around the building, and jumped right into learning. The positive vibes and strong start have us all feeling excited for what’s ahead.
Thank you for your support in helping make the first days smooth and successful. We wish you and your family a restful weekend, and we look forward to welcoming our students back for our first full week together next week!
Sincerely,
Alexis Glenn, Interim Principal
Beacon Hill Middle School
Safety & Security Update
Day two of implementing the new weapons detection system was much smoother. We appreciate our students' patience and cooperation throughout this process. We also thank the school staff for their dedication as we strive to detect and prevent weapons from entering our school.
Screening Times: Today, screening began at 8:25 a.m. and concluded at 8:50 a.m., reducing the time by 10 minutes from the first day and resulting in a five-minute delay from the normal start time of 8:45 a.m.
Times may fluctuate as we are still in the early stages of implementation. We anticipate that the process will become even more efficient as our staff and students adapt to this new procedure. Lockers will be assigned to students Tuesday, August 5. Once lockers are assigned, we will ask students to keep their 3-ring binders in their lockers during the day. This will help minimize the need for secondary screening and further streamline the entry process.
At the City Schools of Decatur, the safety of every student is our highest priority. We appreciate the ongoing support from our school community.
Device Distribution!
New device Distribution has begun for the 2025-2026 school year! Our 8th-grade students received their devices today, and we look forward to distributing devices to our 7th and 6th graders on Monday, August 4th, and Tuesday, August 5, respectively.
Each student has received their assigned device, a functional charger, and a protective case to ensure the device remains in good working order.
Device Care: A Student's Responsibility
Students and parents, please remember that students are responsible for the care and upkeep of their assigned device throughout the school year. This means:
Bring your device to school fully charged every day.
Treat your device with care.
Report any damage or issues immediately to the school's media center.
You'll keep the same device for your entire time at BHMS. The device you receive in 6th grade will be yours through 7th and 8th grade.
To help your student have a successful and productive school year, we've put together five tips for device care at home:
Keep it in the case: The protective case is essential for preventing damage from bumps and drops. Please encourage your student to keep the device in its case at all times.
Handle with care: Remind your student to handle the device with clean hands and to avoid eating or drinking near it to prevent spills.
Use the assigned charger: Only use the charger provided by the school. Using a different charger can damage the device and will not be covered by our maintenance plan.
Create a safe charging space: Establish a specific, safe place for the device to be charged. This prevents it from being stepped on or from causing a tripping hazard.
Review the CSD Student Equipment Loan Form: Take some time to review with your child the form you signed during the annual student update.
Following these tips will help ensure the device lasts throughout the school year, minimize repairs, and avoid any replacement fees. If you have any questions, reach out to Robyn Tibbetts (rtibbetts@csdecatur.net)
