Celebrating Student Achievement Celebrating Student Achievement

The 2025 Illinois Report Card, released on October 30, shows strong results for North Shore School District 112. Braeside School earned an exemplary designation, placing it in the top 10 percent statewide, and our other schools were rated commendable, the second-highest ranking. Districtwide, compared to all other elementary school districts in Illinois, our student proficiency reached the 88th percentile in English language arts and the 90th percentile in math.

These achievements reflect the hard work of our students, staff, and families, as well as our ongoing focus on literacy growth through our district’s Wildly Important Goal.

Our "Wildly Important Goals" (WIGs) Our "Wildly Important Goals" (WIGs)

What are WIGs?

A Wildly Important Goal, or WIG, is part of the “4 Disciplines of Execution” framework. WIGs help us focus on the priorities with the greatest impact, track progress clearly, and work together toward shared success. This does not mean other work is ignored. It means we give special attention to what matters most for our students. In the 2025-2026 school year, we’ll be focusing on two key areas.

Literacy WIG

Increase the percentage of students meeting and exceeding grade-level proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA), as measured by IAR, by 6% by the end of the 2026-2027 school year.

Why this goal?

A 6% increase is ambitious and significant. Literacy includes reading, writing, listening and comprehension. By setting a goal that pushes us to grow, we are committing to the skills that open doors for all learners. Achieving it will take everyone working together to support every student’s growth.

Keep an eye out every Wednesday on social media, where we showcase what students are learning in English language arts. Follow along on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn to see their work in action.

Dual Language WIG

From August 2025 through April 2026, concluding with a formal report to the Board of Education in May 2026, the Superintendent’s Task Force will design and launch a comprehensive stakeholder-informed implementation plan for the phased consolidation of the K-5 dual language program into Oak Terrace, ensuring the plan is inclusive and cultivates trust and engagement across the K-5 dual language program community.

Why this Goal?

In 2027, the K-5 dual language program will consolidate at Oak Terrace, and Red Oak will close. Recognizing the significance of this change, we are committed to ensuring it is carried out thoughtfully and effectively.

Important Work Already Underway

On October 23, District 112 held the first meeting of the Superintendent’s Dual Language Task Force. Subcommittees will now meet throughout the year to help guide the district’s work as it prepares to bring the K-5 program together at Oak Terrace for the 2027-28 school year.

The task force includes parents, staff, administrators, and board members, ensuring the work reflects the voices of the entire community. Members began outlining priorities for student success, family engagement, and facilities and operations, and participated in a visioning activity to define what success will look like by 2027-28.

The Dual Language Task Force met on October 23 to begin planning the unification of the K-5 dual language program, which will come together at Oak Terrace in 2027.

Follow Our Progress

We’ve launched a dashboard that makes it easy to follow along as the district measures progress. The dashboard includes clear indicators and milestones, and it will be updated regularly so families and community members can see how the work is moving forward.

Founded in 1995, the 112 Foundation is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to enriching and enhancing educational opportunities for all students in North Shore School District 112. Cold and Winter Weather Guidelines Cold and Winter Weather Guidelines

As temperatures drop, we want to remind families about our cold-weather and emergency-closing guidelines. These outline how decisions are made during severe weather, including when schools may close or start late, and how families are notified. If conditions require it, the district will utilize a traditional snow day rather than an e-learning day.

Safety and Security Safety and Security

Standard Response Protocol

The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. District 112 follows the “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which provides a clear, common language for responding to any emergency. The SRP is based on five simple actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.

Staff are trained in these actions, carry quick-reference cards, and reinforce the protocol through posters in every school. Learn more on our Safety and Security page or by watching the video below from our director of safety and security, Solvei Jurmu.
