SMS Weekly Update
October 27, 2023
Wednesday, November 1 is a half day for all students. Students will be excused at 11:57am.
Dear Archers,
Thank you to all of our families and caregivers who were able to attend conferences. We received a lot of positive feedback from families, and our staff was thrilled to get to meet so many of our students' families. If you were unable to attend please feel free to reach out to your students' teachers with any questions that you have - we welcome communication at SMS.
In other highlights, last week we held our annual Freaky Friday carnival and dance. This is one of the most exciting events to occur on the SMS campus each year, and this year was no exception. Our Parent Support Organization does an incredible job putting on this event and we are so thankful for all of their efforts. Based on student feedback this was, "the best Freaky Friday ever!"
Please take a look below at some pictures from these events.
THANK YOU, PSO!
We owe a huge thank you to our Parent Support Organization (PSO) for all of their efforts to make the Freaky Friday carnival a success! Freaky Friday is an incredible undertaking, with volunteers working tirelessly for weeks, and an incredible 24 hour turnaround of our campus to make their Halloween dreams a reality! An extra big shout out to Heather Flowers for all of her guidance, dedication, and volunteer coordination in making this event such a huge success!
The money raised from Freaky Friday is used to help fund additional projects, opportunities, and extended learning choices for our students. Teachers regularly request grants from the PSO who is able to provide funding for our staff based on the money raised at this event. In coming weeks you will see some examples of the various ways that this funding has been used.
Thank you for everything, PSO!

Whether you have a relative, or even a close family friend, we encourage you to take this opportunity for celebration. To sign up a veteran please click HERE.
If you don't know anyone personally who has served and still want to help celebrate, students can still have the chance to adopt a Veteran of our Sherwood Community. Please click HERE to adopt a veteran for this event.
More details and timing for those involved will be sent as the event gets closer.
SMS Yearbook 2023-2024 - Order by 10/31 for 10% Off
Yearbooks can be ordered on treering.com. Please include your students flight time teacher when ordering (that ensures they get their own book.) If you have ordered a yearbook in the past few years from any elementary in Sherwood you should already have an account. You have the opportunity to personalize pages for your student throughout the year and share photos from sporting events etc. with the yearbook team. You can do this via the app on your phone or the website. There are photo folders for various categories. The SMS school code can be found on the flyer in the newsletter and on the FB PSO site as well as flyers coming home soon. If you are feeling generous you can donate a book when you check out. The school counselors will ensure it goes to someone in need.
Order by October 31st for 10% off.
8th Grade East Coast Trip this June 2024
We visit historical sites in NYC, Washington DC & Pennsylvania, as well as go to a baseball game and a Broadway play. This is truly a great trip; one where memories are made, 8th graders expand their knowledge of the world around them, and so many sites are seen!
Flyers are available in the front office. You can also email smsgoeseast@gmail.com for more information. Deadline to register is November 1. We need a minimum of 20 students to sign-up or the trip could be potentially cancelled.
This is a non-school sponsored event.
SMS Needs Tissues & Disinfecting Wipes
Cold and flu season is here and we are already out of supplies! If you are able to donate, please bring disinfecting wipes and facial tissues to the front office. There will also be a table set up at Conferences for drop-off of these items. Thank you!
