Principal's Update
Thank You for Participating in Colors Weeks
For the past two weeks, every day brought a new color to wear in support of K-8 school spirit and kindergarten color days. Thank you for your support and participation.
Student Recognitions Added
We are adding new ways to recognize students' contributions to the well being of our school community. Now, students can submit school appropriate jokes and compliments to peers that are read to the whole student body, staff, and audience members at Friday spirit assemblies. We are spreading more laughter, appreciation, and pride as a result of these efforts.
Warmly,
Debbie Stein
We Shouldn't Have to Say This!
Steindorf Families,
Urgency at school drop off does not excuse dangerous driving. Prioritize pedestrian safety in the parking lot and on the streets. As a licensed driver, you agreed to follow the law and keep everyone safe.
- Yield to pedestrians of all ages across the parking lot exit and in the crosswalks. It's the law!
- Right turn only out of school parking lot. It's the law!
- No parking in red zones. It's the law!
- Use designated crosswalks to cross streets. Do not cross Ross Ave. elsewhere, including at Brighten Ave.
- Use caution to keep crosswalks at Ross & Foxworthy Avenues clear for pedestrians. Do not jump the light.
Thank you for doing your part to keep Steindorf and the area surrounding the school safe.
Principal Debbie Stein
Social Emotional Student Screener
Fastbrige SAEBRS Social Emotional & Behavioral Student Screener
Dear Parent/Guardian,
In 2017, the California Department of Education Social Emotional Learning (SEL) State Team collaborated on creating California’s Social and Emotional Learning Guiding Principles, a set of statements intended to provide guidance to education leaders and to support the strong SEL work happening across the state:
Adopt Whole Child Development as the Goal of Education
Commit to Equity
Build Capacity
Partner with Families and Community
Learn and Improve
The Cambrian School District's mission is to educate the whole child by creating a student-centered school culture that addresses students’ physical, social, emotional, and academic needs by creating a safe and healthy learning environment in which students are challenged, supported, and engaged. Research shows that when schools fully integrate social, emotional, and academic development into K-12 education, academic performance improves, students are more engaged in school, and they are more likely to graduate high school and attend and graduate from college.
One way to gather information about a child’s development is through a Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS). The SAEBRS is a brief and efficient tool for universal screening of student risk for social-emotional and behavioral problems for students in Grades K through 12. The goal of universal school-wide screening is to identify students early who may need social/emotional support.
All teachers in grades TK-8 will be filling out a SAEBRS on each student in their class via our Fastbridge assessment system. In addition, all students in grades 2-8 will be asked to complete a self-screener during the school day with support from the school staff sometime September 28 - October 16. This screener helps identify areas in a child’s social/emotional health where the child has the possibility to benefit from extra support. If your child’s score on the screener is at-risk (meaning there are concerns about the student’s social-emotional development), the school staff will contact you to discuss options about how we can best support you and your child’s needs.
For more information about the Fastbridge SAEBRS, please see the following link: https://www.cambriansd.org/departments/educational-services/assessment/csd-local-assessments. To view the questions on the SAEBRS assessment, please visit the following link: https://bit.ly/3BzklUF
We are excited about this opportunity to help support your child’s social/emotional development. If you have any questions about this process, please contact me or your child's teacher.
Sincerely,
Principal Debbie Stein

Attendance Updates
Attendance Terms
Truancy
A pupil is considered truant if they are absent without a valid excuse for:
Three full days in one school year.
Any combination of absences or tardiness exceeding 30 minutes on three occasions in one school year.
Upon classification as a truant, the school will notify the parent or guardian, informing them of the pupil's truancy status and their obligation to ensure the pupil's attendance.
Habitual Truancy
If a pupil is reported as a truant three or more times in one school year, the pupil is considered a habitual truant. A School Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting will be scheduled with the parent/guardian to work on a success and remediation plan.
Chronic Absenteeism
A pupil is deemed chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of school days in a year, regardless of whether the absences are excused or unexcused.
Students who are habitual truants or chronically absent may be referred to a School Attendance Review Board (SARB). These bodies work with the student and family to address attendance issues and may recommend community services or other interventions.

Volunteer Clearance Required to Volunteer in Cambrian
Volunteer Clearance Requirements go into effect- October 13th
Follow directions on the Cambrian School District website to gain clearance to volunteer within the school district. Volunteer webpage link.
📢CEF Volunteer Support Fund 📢
Open the Door to More Volunteers
Volunteers make our schools stronger. They support classrooms, field trips, student activities, and school programs—and students benefit when parents and community members can be involved. The new volunteer clearance process includes a $77 fingerprinting cost, which can be a barrier for some families.
Help Remove the Barrier
Cambrian Educational Foundation (CEF) has launched the Volunteer Support Fund with an initial $3,000 investment to help provide financial assistance for required fingerprinting.
Your donation can help multiply that impact by helping more parents and community members become cleared volunteers. To direct your donation to this fund, visit www.cambrianef.org/giving Under “Please direct my support to:” select “Volunteer Support Fund” from the dropdown menu.

This Week in a Picture
Fourth Graders "Walk Through California"
Walk Through California brought California history to life this week in fourth grade. Students learned through games, music, storytelling, and re-enactments as they explored important events, people, and geography connected to our curriculum. It was a fun and engaging way to build on our classroom learning and spark curiosity about California’s rich history!
