Brief Message From the Principal

Dear Jayhawk Elementary Families,

We are off to a strong start here at JES and have a few important updates to share with you this week.

FastBridge Benchmark Assessments
Beginning Tuesday, September 2nd, all students in grades K–6 will be participating in our fall benchmark assessments using FastBridge. These assessments are an important tool that helps teachers:

  • Identify each student’s strengths and areas where extra support may be needed.

  • Measure growth throughout the year.

  • Guide teachers in tailoring instruction to best meet the needs of every learner.

It’s important to remember that these are not high-stakes tests, but rather a way for us to gather helpful information so we can provide the best learning opportunities for your child. Families can support their students by encouraging a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and reminding children to simply do their best.

Family Communication

If you haven’t already, please take a moment to sign up for our new Rooms communication tool. This platform allows families to stay in constant contact with their child’s classroom teacher and is now our primary method of communication across USD 346. Using Rooms ensures that you never miss important updates, reminders, or classroom news. If you need help accessing Rooms, please see the link provided or reach out to our office for assistance.

Fire Drill Success
Safety is always a top priority, and this past week we held our very first fire drill of the year. Our students and staff did a fantastic job following procedures quickly and calmly. We are proud of how well everyone responded!

JES Kindness Award
We are also excited to continue the tradition we began last year—our monthly JES Kindness Award. Each month, one student will be recognized for going above and beyond to show kindness to others. This recognition is made possible thanks to partnerships with local organizations, and we are so grateful to work with our community to highlight our amazing students.
