FCS Students to Take Presidential Fitness Test as Part of PE Program FCS Students to Take Presidential Fitness Test as Part of PE Program

We want to make you aware of a new state requirement that will impact Fowlerville Community Schools K-12 students enrolled in physical education classes beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

As part of Michigan's recently enacted state education budget, public schools are required to implement the Presidential Fitness Test for students enrolled in physical education classes. The requirement applies only when students are enrolled in a physical education (PE) class. Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are not required to participate unless their IEP specifically requires participation in the Presidential Fitness Test.

The Presidential Fitness Test was reestablished nationally by President Donald Trump through an executive order signed in July 2025. The federal initiative is intended to encourage physical activity and assess areas such as strength, endurance, speed and agility. The federal government has also established a Presidential Fitness Award to recognize students who meet designated achievement standards.

Fitness-test activities may include familiar exercises such as sit-ups/curl-ups, push-ups and a one-mile run or walk, along with other activities used to assess different areas of physical fitness. Michigan's law directs the Michigan Department of Education, in consultation with the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports, to provide guidance to schools regarding implementation of the test.

Our physical education staff will incorporate the required testing into PE classes in accordance with state guidance. As always, our goal is to provide students with positive, age-appropriate opportunities to be active, develop healthy habits and understand the importance of lifelong physical fitness. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your student's principal.

Fowlerville High School freshman Tenley Nicklin has turned her love of storytelling into an exciting accomplishment: becoming a published author! Tenley began developing the characters and story for her first book, "The Realm Keepers," in fourth grade. After years of writing, editing and revising, she published the book while she was an eighth grader at Fowlerville Junior High. It is now available through the Barnes & Noble website.

Recently, Tenley returned to Mrs. Bowling’s English classroom to share her writing and publishing experience with students, which was featured on WILX TV-10. She also held book signings at the Junior High during lunch periods and Parent-Teacher Conferences. Tenley credits her family and Mrs. Bowling, her seventh- and eighth-grade English teacher, for encouraging her and supporting her journey.

With seven more books already started, Tenley has plenty of stories left to tell. She is also exploring college writing programs and hopes to publish books in a variety of genres. Congratulations, Tenley, on publishing "The Realm Keepers" and sharing your accomplishment through your book signings! We are proud of your creativity and perseverance and look forward to seeing where your writing takes you.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month October is National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a reminder that everyone has a role in creating a school community where students feel safe, respected and included. At Fowlerville Community Schools, we encourage students to show kindness, celebrate differences and consider how their words and actions affect others—in person and online. Inviting someone to join an activity, offering encouragement or reaching out to a classmate who feels left out can help build a stronger sense of belonging.

There are a variety of resources available to parents and students:

  • ParentGuidance.org
  • FCS Mental Health Webpage
  • Ok2Say
  • Community Mental Health of Livingston County

Families can support bullying prevention by talking with their children about respectful behavior, listening to their concerns and encouraging them to seek help when needed. Students who experience or witness bullying should tell a trusted adult, such as a teacher, counselor or principal. Reporting a concern is an important step in helping keep themselves and others safe. By working together and keeping communication open, we can help every student feel supported and ready to learn throughout the school year.

Building Attendance Habits Early Building Attendance Habits Early

Attendance matters from the very beginning of a child’s school experience.

In elementary school, students are developing foundational academic skills, but they’re also learning how to be students. They practice classroom routines, independence, problem-solving, communication and working with others.

Consistent attendance gives children repeated opportunities to practice those skills. Strong attendance habits established when children are young can also carry forward as students become more independent. Families can help by creating predictable school-night and morning routines, talking positively about school and making attendance the expectation whenever children are healthy enough to attend.

If mornings have become difficult or your child is reluctant to attend school, talk with their teacher or school. There may be something happening that we can work through together.

Every day provides another opportunity to build skills and confidence.

The Goulding sisters have established themselves among the best golfers in the Capital Area Activities Conference Red Division, with both earning First Team All-Conference honors this season.

For Karis, a freshman, the season has been nothing short of remarkable. She has rewritten the Fowlerville girls golf record book multiple times during the season, setting a new school record for an 18-hole event with a score of 77.

Her older sister, Brynn, has also left her mark on the Fowlerville program. The senior has been a steady leader and currently shares the school record for a 9-hole round, shooting a 37. She shares that record, with Karis, making the accomplishment another piece of history the sisters have created together.

Yesterday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Girls Golf Regionals, both sisters finished in the top 10 out of 67 participants. Karis's third place finish was enough for her to become only the second girls golfer in school history to qualify for the MHSAA State Championships.

POP! Fundraiser

The POP! Power of Purpose fundraiser is currently underway, so please encourage your students to participate. All students need to do is enter the contact information for 10 individuals willing to donate to support our schools' PBIS programming! Who knows, maybe they could earn a chance to smash a pie in Mr. Krueger’s face at the end of the fundraiser.

Drop off & Pick up

Student drop off in the morning and afternoon pick up is only allowed in the Circle Drive and South parking lot. Please do not use the teacher lot on the east side of the building. We understand the morning rush, but safety should be everyone's priority, so please do not use this lot in the mornings or after school.

With temperatures beginning to drop, please remember to send your child to school with warmer clothing such as sweatshirts, jackets and pants. Our students love outdoor recess and we will continue to head outside daily unless it is actively raining or storming. Layering up ensures everyone stays warm and ready to play!

Little Glad Early Childhood Center celebrated Fire Safety Week with our Fowlerville Fire Department (FFD). We learned about smoke detectors, what to do if there is a fire and were able to see a firefighter in their full uniform. The fire department brought one of their big fire trucks for us to investigate. We are encouraging all of our families to check their smoke detectors. The FFD can provide new detectors for your home if you are in need.

GSRP Transportation Reminder – Little Glad Early Childhood will be in session on Tuesday, October 13, though K–12 has no school. However, because district schools are closed, there will be no bus transportation for GSRP students. Families will need to make other arrangements to bring their child to and from school.

On Friday, October 16, there will be no school for our GSRP students. Our GSRP teachers will be participating in an all-day professional development.

As a reminder, our GSRP school day is 8:40 AM–3:30 PM, and all GSRP students should enter and exit through Door #14.
