Message from Jennifer
It’s hard to believe we are already well into the school year! One of my favorite parts of each day is being out and about on campus—visiting classrooms, talking with students, and watching them learn, play, and grow together. At this point in the year, our routines are well established, but we also know that our students still need reminders, encouragement, and lots of positive reinforcement as they navigate friendships, challenges, and everyday choices.
That’s why we continue to talk every day about the Sunset View Way—being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Kind. These four words are at the heart of the community we want for our children. You can help us by reinforcing them at home, too. Ask your child how they showed kindness, took responsibility, made a safe choice, or demonstrated respect that day. I love catching our students living the Sunset View Way, and handing out Whale-Done tickets, and I hope they begin to recognize and feel proud of those moments in themselves, too.
Thank you, as always, for being our partners!

Reminders
SDUSD Updated Screen Time Policy
As we kick off the new school year, San Diego Unified is introducing a new learner-centered technology resolution to help students stay focused, healthy, and engaged in learning.
Beginning August 10, students will see a few important changes:
Video-streaming platforms, such as YouTube, will only be available on district-issued Chromebooks when enabled by teachers for instructional purposes.
Non-instructional gaming platforms will still be prohibited on district-issued devices.
Computer carts will be removed from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classrooms, while ensuring students with Individualized Education Plans, 504 Plans, or language-learning needs continue to receive appropriate access.
These updates are part of our commitment to creating learning environments where technology supports student learning, safety, wellness, and healthy development.
As a parent, you can also reduce screentime and non-instructional use of Chromebooks by activating your Blocksi Parent account to monitor and restrict access when your student is not at school. To learn more about how to use Blocksi, read this Blocksi Parent Job Aid.

Attendance
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2000 by 9:30 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email sunselm@sandi.net.
Any child arriving after 9:00 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time.
