Message from Dr. Antonelli

Dear Norwood Families,

I hope everyone had a great weekend! The weather was beautiful! Thank you to everyone who came out for Popsicles on the Playground last Friday. It was great to see all the students and families out on the playground.

Sunday we held our annual Color Fun Run. Thank you to our PTA for organizing! Everyone had a ton of fun. Thank you to our sponsors who helped support our event. Please see them all below. Congratulations to our own Isabella for her accomplichments in the Special Olympics this past weekend!

The last big event of the year for families to get involved in is our Field Day on June 11th. If you have time please consider volunteering. The 5th grade student versus teacher kickball game will be held that afternoon.

Our local Warwick Police Officer may be seen at dismissal. He will be there whenever he is available to come to help with traffic and parking. We thank him for his support!

As a reminder, the loop in the back of the school is a drive thru loop. It is not intended for parking and or stopping and leaving your car. If you need to do this please park in one of the lots in the side or back of the school. Please do not park along the loop for the safety of our staff and students. Please see the picture below to help as a guide of where to go.

Norwood School hours are 9:00 am - 3:10 pm.

Drop off is 8:40 am for students having breakfast and 8:50am for everyone else. We are not staffed before that time for drop off.

Students are dismissed at 3:10pm. Students in grades K-2 are dismissed out of the back of the All Purpose Room. Students in grade 3-5 are dismissed out the back door in front of the playground.

Please consult our school handbook.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

We had AMAZING businesses that sponsored our color run this year. We would like to acknowledge their generosity. We thank you for your support with the Norwood PTA, Norwood School, and great kids of the school. With their generosity we are able to hold events for families to enjoy, and give necessities to the school that will help our students and teachers. In the coming days, we will spotlight these businesses, but today, we wanted to share our thanks. Please consider supporting these local businesses.

Special Olympics Special Olympics

Isabella participated in the Special Olympics of Rhode Island state games. She brought home gold for the 50 meter dash and bronze for the softball throw. We are so proud of her!

Attendance Attendance

From The Rhode Island Department of Education

What is Chronic Absenteeism?

Chronic Absenteeism is a measure of how many students miss a defined number of school days for any reason. Rhode Island defines Chronic Absenteeism as the percentage of students who miss 10% or more school days during the year (or 2 days per month).

Research shows that chronic absenteeism is associated with a number of negative consequences for students, including lower achievement, disengagement from school, course failure, and increased risk of dropping out.

Missing 10% of school or more makes it harder to learn

Early Dismissals

Please refrain from requesting an early dismissal for your child after 2:45pm. The dismissal process begins at 3:05pm and it becomes very difficult for us to fill an early dismissal request once the process begins.

Student Absences

Students will be marked absent, no matter the reason, if they are not in school.

If the absence is COVID related it will be entered as an excused absence.

STUDENT ABSENCE CALL-IN PROCEDURE

In accordance with Rhode Island State Law #16-19-10, Notification of Pupil Absence, the Warwick School Department requires that all parents/guardians call their child’s elementary school on the day that he/she will not be in attendance. We would like to receive all calls by 9:15 in the morning. If you are aware of a pending absence, feel free to call at any time prior to the day of the absence. In the event we do not hear from you, an automated call will be sent at 10:00 a.m. to inform you that your child did not arrive at school.
