WETWANG CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

WEEK ENDING 31ST JANUARY 2020

WETWANG CEPRIMARY SCHOOLWEEK ENDING 31ST JANUARY 2020

'Learning and growing in the love of God.' (1 John 4:16)

LEARNING

Our curriculum is designed with the children's interests at its heart. It is mapped and planned with a clear process of learning in mind. It has specific learning intentions for every subject, ensuring that children receive a broad and balanced curriculum which equips them for the next stage in their learning as well as life in modern Britain. The school’s curriculum promotes and sustains a thirst for knowledge and understanding and also a love of learning. Please look at the link below if you'd like to find out more about the way we plan and sequence our curriculum to make it exciting and help equip every child with the skills needed as they develop and mature.

We are very proud at how our pupils are developing links between areas of the curriculum. We think you will see what we mean below as you read a little of what has been happening in each class.

Class 1 - Class 1 have had a specific focus on Art and Design and Technology in the past few weeks. The children have been learning to use papier mache, colour mixing, adding texture to paint and thinking about the textured surface of the Moon. They have even designed and made space buggies. What fantastically creative pupils we have.

'I love my model. It's a space buggy. It can fly.' (By Olly)

Class 2 - 'In Science we have been learning about metal and forces and doing experiments. It has been so much fun. Now, we have left coins in different liquids - vinegar, coke and ketchup. That was also fun! The class smelled of vinegar. I thought it was amazing, but everyone else didn't.' (By Dani)

Class 3 - 'This half term, I’ve enjoyed our science topic ‘Illustrating Life Cycles’. We have used water colours to paint botanical illustrations and zoological illustrations. We have learnt about the parts of a flower. It was fun bisecting a rose - I could see the different parts really clearly. I’ve learnt that when bees carry the pollen, they drop the pollen onto other flowers so that the flowers can reproduce. Did you know that there is a male and a female pine cone! We also looked at the life cycles of plants and animals. Did you know that kangaroos have a pouch for their young to stay in while they are growing? I also found out that rats are fully grown in two to three months! Science is my favourite subject – I can’t wait for the next lesson!' (By Jake)
