Wildcat Skills

This week students will be practicing making a request and then accepting an undesired answer. This is a hard skill for even adults to master so the more practice students can get, the better.

Make a Request

zoom_out_map

Make a Request

· Eyes on the person

· Wait quietly to be acknowledged (eye contact, they say your name)

· In a calm voice, make your request

· Wait quietly for response

· After a response is given, say “Ok, Thank You”

Why should we follow these steps?

· More likely to get the answer you want to your request

· To be respectful to others and the person you are asking

· To be safe so you do not do something that could harm you or others.

· To be responsible by asking permission.

Accepting an Unwanted Answer

Accept an Unwanted Answer

  • Eyes on the person

  • Say “OK”

  • Stay calm

  • If you would like an explanation, in a calm voice ask, “May I ask why?”

  • If you still disagree, in a calm voice ask, “Can we talk about it more later?”

Why should we follow these steps?

  • School/teachers have a schedule they have to keep so your request might not work into the schedule.

  • To say safe (No, we can’t stand on your chairs)

  • To be respectful (No, you can’t talk to your friends while others are working)

  • To be responsible (No, you can’t call your mom to bring your book to you)
