Library classes K-4 are in the holiday spirit! We have read books about Kwanzaa,
Hanukkah, and Christmas.
Pre-holiday-gift-bonanza time is great time to clean out toy boxes and bookshelves
to make room for incoming gifts! [because I’m sure you aren’t busy and have soooo
much free time right now ;)] The library would be happy to take your used books
and clean book character stuffies!
Both libraries have received book donations recently—thank you! It is so fun to see
the kids light up when they see new-to-them books.
I am also grateful to PALS, who generously donated $200 for purchasing books at
Village Books during their Cyber Monday sale. I was able to get high demand and
topical books for both libraries. If you ever want to pick up some books for the
library (or see if your shelves already have them!), our wishlist is here:
https://www.villagebooks.com/wishlist/537
Next week is the last week before winter break, so I will be encouraging kids to take
more books than usual to sustain them over break. Please help them keep track of
them so I don’t have to hunt them down in my safari suit in January! If you want to
help them look for specific titles, authors, or topics, our catalog is on your student’s
Canvas library page. The link is also here:

A few images of our First Graders working hard.
Celebrations in Chapel!
Our chapel was a special celebration, as students by grade learned about a good man who helped people who couldn’t afford much at all: Saint Nicholas, bishop of Myra.
They read part of a story about St. Nicholas, and each grade had a brief discussion reflecting on how there is more to give than gifts. Students shared what they can give besides presents. One thoughtful 2nd Grader shared, "You can share love and appreciation." Our Chaplin Aaron Walters echoed her comments by nudging students to remember that they can give hugs, words of encouragement, and love to others. He ended their time together by reminding the students that this is a great time to be generous.
The students left their time together to find oranges and gold coins in their shoes (they took them off as they arrived).
Rockets in Space a K-4th Grade Art Project
Our fabulous art specialist Rachel Simpson shared this: "Rockets in Space themed art that was inspired by NASA, and we used many material and skills in drawing shapes, lines, with colored pencils, oil pastels, and collage onto a black paper painted with white tempera paint for the stars, nebulas, comets, and asteroids in space."
