A Message to Principal Molina A Message to Principal Molina

Mrs. Molina is still in the process of recovering and regaining her strength, but we know she is thinking about all the Beveridge students and staff as this school year begins.

She is extremely eager to return to school, meet all the new students, and welcome back our returning Bulldogs. In the meantime, her dedicated staff is working hard to keep the school running smoothly.

We want to wish her a strong recovery and let her know we're thinking of her, too!

A Message from Dr. Green A Message from Dr. Green

Hey Beveridge Families,

The first week of school was off to a great start! We are enjoying students being back in the building.

We want to make you aware of a situation that we are watching very closely over the next couple of days. Due to the number of families who lost transportation, we are noticing an increased number of parent pickups. This could potentially mean longer lines and extended wait times at dismissal. To address this, we will be looking at traffic patterns over the next couple of days. We ask that you remain patient with us, as we may need to adjust the location of our pick-up to accommodate for larger numbers. We want every student to get home safely each and every day.

We are committed to open communication and will make every effort to communicate any changes to you as soon as possible.

Thanks again for your patience.

Director of Equity and Diversity

Acting Principal for Beveridge Middle

OPS Student Safety and Standard Response Protocol (SRP) OPS Student Safety and Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

At Beveridge, safety is always our top priority. Our district has planned and prepared in case of an emergency. Just as a family may practice sheltering for severe weather at home, we teach students and staff across our district how to respond in a range of situations. Since August 2018, Omaha Public Schools has used the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The SRP benefits students, staff and first responders because everyone uses the same language and definitions. The five options in the Standard Response Protocol are:

  • Hold
  • Secure
  • Lockdown
  • Evacuate
  • Shelter Inside

Inside Beveridge, you will see posters that include the same information. Students and staff routinely participate in drills for different possible emergencies. Students learn how to react, where to assemble and what to expect were it a real situation. In an emergency during school, communication will be sent out to families. Families should follow the instructions sent via email and automated phone call. In an emergency, we ask that families not call or visit the school until asked to do so.

During an emergency, staff will be focused on student safety and may not be available to answer phones or direct traffic. Access in and near a school may be blocked for emergency personnel.

Accessing Parent Portal Accessing Parent Portal

The Parent Portal is a resource for parents and guardians to access their student's records including attendance, grades and missing assignments. The application allows parents and guardians to access information about ALL of their students through one convenient website.

This is a great way for you to see what assignments your students have turned in and not turned in yet. You will also be able to see the specific grade your student earned for the assignment once the teacher has entered the grade for it. Please click this link for directions on accessing the Parent Portal. If you need any support with this, please contact our front office staff at 531-299-2280.

From the Sports Desk From the Sports Desk

Season 1 Fall sports are ready to begin! Coaches for football, volleyball, and x-country will hold their information meetings on Monday, August 21st. Coaches will go over expectations and discuss what it means to be a 'student athlete.' The week of August 21st will be busy and HOT! We'll keep an eye on the heat index and adjust accordingly. Here is what is happening for each of the Fall sports..

Football - Football will begin on Thursday, August 24th. Coaches will be handing out equipment and issuing lockers. There will not be actual practice on this day due to the extreme heat. Practice will start on Friday, August 25th. Coaches will determine who has their physicals turned in as well as the other paperwork (insurance, concussion forms etc..). All FB players must have a valid and current sports physical on file with the school nurse.

Volleyball - Volleyball is a 'cut' sport meaning not everyone will make the team. Coach Thomas and Coach Oyesiku will be holding tryouts on Wednesday, August 23rd for 7th graders and Thursday, August 24th for 8th graders. The first practice as a team will be Friday, August 25th. Athletes should bring a water bottle and come prepared wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Knee pads are optional. Anyone who does not have a valid sports physical on file with the nurse will not be allowed to participate.

X-Country - Practice tentatively begins on Thursday, August 24th. Coaches will check to make sure every runner has their paperwork turned in including a valid sports physical. Anyone who does not have a valid sports physical on file with the nurse will not be allowed to participate. Runners should bring a water bottle and a good pair of running shoes.

Any student who is eligible to ride a bus to/from school will be placed on a late bus to get home after practices. All practices run until 5:00 PM. If you want to pick up your child, you will do this in the large south parking lot. Please park your cars on the west end of the parking lot as late buses will need to pull into the stalls on the east side of the parking lot.

Ms. Jillian Johnson

Dean of Students & 6th grade Administrator

Hi! My name is Jillian Johnson and this is my 14th year in education. Previously I've been a School Counselor, but I'm excited to learn my new role as Dean of Students. I will primarily be working with 6th graders, so we can all learn the ins and outs of middle school together! I am a mom to 3 daughters who are in 7th grade, 6th grade, and 1st grade, and a dog mom to an Old English Sheepdog named Poppy. I truly love working with students and helping them navigate this world, and I look forward to getting to know your student!

Parent/Visitor Check In Process Parent/Visitor Check In Process

zoom_out_map

Safety and security are top priorities at Beveridge. We aim to ensure that all our students and staff are safe at all times. Therefore, the following practices are in place for student sign out and visitors on campus. Individuals entering the building must follow this process to help ensure the safety of all.

When checking your student out of school early, please call the school ahead of time and request the student be in the security office for sign out at the time you need. This will avoid having you wait longer than necessary to pick up your student. If you are picking up your student during lunch, please know additional time is needed to locate your student and to assist them with getting back to their locker and classroom to pick up any belongings they may need to take home with them. Calling ahead will support us with this prior to you arriving. Please plan ahead and add some extra time for checking your student out of school.

  • All parents and visitors will need to provide ID.
  • Parents and visitors picking up a student from school will wait in the security office. Your student will be brought to you.
  • Parents and visitors, if you are picking up an ill student, your student will remain in the Nurse's Office until you arrive. Once you arrive, the student will be escorted to the security office for check out.
  • Parents and visitors wanting to meet with staff with a scheduled meeting will be escorted from the security office to the location of your meeting.
  • Parents and visitors wanting to meet with staff without a scheduled meeting may be asked to schedule a meeting at another time. Staff may not be available when you arrive, and a meeting will need to be scheduled. You may be asked to leave the school until your scheduled meeting time.

Our security measures are in place to increase safety at Beveridge. Please know that all of us at Beveridge take the safety of all students, all visitors, and all staff members very seriously. We appreciate your support as we ensure all visitors follow the procedures for student sign out and visitors on campus.

To call ahead to sign your student out of school or to schedule an appointment with any staff member, please call 531-299-2280.

Who Should I Contact? Who Should I Contact?

If your child is struggling in a classroom academically or behaviorally, you should reach out to the classroom teacher first. If they are unable to answer your questions or resolve your concerns, your next step would be to contact the grade level counselor or the grade level administrator. This information will be located at the bottom of this section.

If you have concerns regarding your student, not including the classroom teacher, please contact the grade level counselor or grade level administrator. They will have more information about your student and if they don't, they will be happy to get when you need and communicate that with you.

If you are not sure who you need to speak with, please call our front office and one of our staff members will be able to direct you to the correct person. You will need to provide some information so that you are directed to the appropriate person.

If you have questions about your student's attendance, please contact our Attendance Secretary, Mr. Clint McKinney at Clint.McKinney@ops.org. You can also call our main line and you can select the Attendance number: 531-299-2280.
