Shout Out
Due to a spreadsheet glich, I am catching up on sharing Shout Outs from September through this week.
- Marianne McGee, is grateful for Jacob Bailes: "Jacob is an incredible IT staff member! He answers tech tickets in a timely manner, visits classrooms to ensure tech is running appropriately and works to make sure teachers needs are met. He is a such a valuable resource for our staff!"
- Jenny Winter is passing along pride for Building & Grounds: "A member of a visiting soccer team is shouting out Georgetown's Field and Grounds department for "having the best grass I've ever played on.""
- A community member is shouting out Mrs. Pike: "Mrs. Pike was my son’s 2nd grade teacher and then my daughter’s Kindergarten teacher the following year. To this day my kids LOVE her! She was such an incredible influence on them. Her shared love of reading and Disney was just the connection that my son needed to thrive. Mrs. Pike seemed to absolutely cherish her return back to Kindergarten. Her class had the best, happiest and most fulfilled year! The connections made and friendships formed in the warm and nourishing environment she created are priceless. We’d like to wish Mrs. Pike an absolutely joyful, well-deserved retirement! Thank you for everything! You will be missed!"
- Olivia Alford is sharing a Thank You to GHMS custodial staff: "I want to give a huge shout out to Lisa and her crew for going above and beyond when cleaning and preparing my new classroom. It was a herculean task and they completed it in an exemplary manner. My students wouldn't be able to enjoy a well put together room without them. Thank you for all you did over the summer." and for Jared Young and Gus Cardosa: "I want to thank them for helping me set up my new classroom by finding and installing two white boards and removing the enormous bulletin board that was there. I know there were some struggles in getting it all done, but the end result is awesome. Thank you for all you did over the summer."
- A Penn Brook staff is grateful for Principal Benoit: "Thank you, Beth, for always being so kind and supportive. You go above and beyond to listen to me, give me honest advice, cheer me on, and help me gain extra experiences that you never have to offer. Your encouragement and support mean more to me than you know, and I truly appreciate everything you do!"
- Beth Benoit is appreciative of Gus Cardosa: "We are so thankful to Gus for figuring out the problem and fixing the fire panel alarm that continuously was alarming without cause."
- Matt Osborn is being supported by Yadira Batista: "For taking the time to answer all emails and questions. For always doing his best to understand and helping me understand each procedure."
- Brian Masys would like share the following about Dave Daron: "Dedication. Mr. Daron has been a dedicated teacher, coach, and role model for the youth of Georgetown for the last 30 years! He consistently provides an educationally independent environment that allows students the opportunity to better themselves physically and mentally. Mr. Daron was an integral part of the process creating and initiating popular department electives such as Strength & Conditioning as well as Lifelong Fitness. Mr. Daron is currently one of the most tenured teachers in the district and it's been a privilege to work with him and an honor to be his friend."
- Student Luke St. Pierre is loving the care and dedication Mary Ellen Russell takes with GMHS meals: "Making the best meals and always saying hi to students"
The Power of Presence
Every school day matters, and we miss your student when they aren't here. Regular attendance builds strong learning habits and keeps children connected to their friends and teachers.
We know life happens, but if your family is facing any hurdles—whether with health, transportation, or anything else—please reach out to your child's school. We are here to help.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students learning every day!
For our high school students, this is a reminder that there could be a loss of academic credit for excessive absences. Since good attendance is crucial for students to achieve the best possible academic and social-emotional outcomes, Georgetown High School has set school attendance requirements for students to receive credit for a course. If a student accumulates six or more unexcused absences from school in an academic quarter, it will result in the loss of credit in all classes, except in cases of extraordinary circumstances as determined by the principal or designee in collaboration with the Student Assistance Team. The student will receive a grade designation of an “NC” resulting in “No Credit” for that quarter. If a student's class average is a 59 or lower, they will receive that grade. A remedy for failure due to excessive absences is for a student to improve his or her attendance in the quarter immediately following the one in which he or she exceeded the maximum number of absences. Specifically, if a student has six or fewer unexcused absences the following quarter, the average for the failed quarter will revert to the average the student had originally earned. There is no remedy for 4th quarter failures.
