From the Principal
Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!
Spring testing season is here, and we are proud of all the hard work our students have put in throughout the school year!
Beginning next week, our 3rd grade students will begin State Testing on Tuesday (5/12), Thursday (5/14), and Friday (5/15). Testing will continue the following week on Tuesday (5/19) and Wednesday (5/20). These assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate the learning they have accomplished this year. We encourage families to help students feel prepared by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast, arrive at school on time, and come with a positive mindset.
In addition to state testing, students across our school will also participate in our end-of-year Spring Diagnostic assessments. These assessments help us measure the tremendous growth students have made from the beginning of the school year until now and provide valuable information to support future learning.
We are incredibly proud of our students and know they will continue to do their best. Thank you for your continued partnership and support during this important time of year!
Warm Regards,
Christine Firth, Principal

Around the School
Students from both Cherrydale and Anderson Island enjoyed an exciting and unforgettable assembly, made possible by our PTA.
Jeff Evans’ Science Magic assembly is an interactive mix of science and magic using solids, liquids, and gases, through captivating demonstrations and hands-on participation. Students discovered how science can feel like magic when approached with curiosity and creativity.
Thank you to our PTA for bringing this inspiring experience to our school and sparking a love of learning in such a memorable way!
From the Office
The Steilacoom Historical School District’s Transition to Kindergarten (TK) program for the 2026–2027 school year.
For the 2026–27 school year, Steilacoom Historical School District’s Transition to Kindergarten (TK) program will offer a single, districtwide TK program on the mainland, serving eligible students from both Cherrydale and Chloe Clark Elementary schools. Transportation will be provided for the entire 26-27 school year.
Due to recent legislative funding reductions exceeding $27 million and limited classroom space at Cherrydale Elementary, this mainland program will be capped at 20 students. Because space is limited in the districtwide program, not all applicants will be selected. The district will continue to offer a TK program at Anderson Island Elementary.
Transition to Kindergarten is an early learning program designed for children who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten. This free program is available to children who are not currently enrolled in an early learning program and who demonstrate financial, academic, and/or social-emotional needs.
The program focuses on essential academics, social-emotional skills, and learning habits to support a strong start to each child’s educational journey. At the end of the program, students transition to kindergarten at their home school.
We have created a TK informational page on our website, which includes an application that needs to be completed for families who may be considering the Transition to Kindergarten program for their child.
