From the Principal
Hello Burns Park Families,
With just a few days until The First Day, I’m reminded of a book I always read when I was a Kindergarten teacher: Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten.
On Monday, our teachers will arrive to begin preparing to welcome your lovelies. There will be lots of organizing, labeling, planning, and, of course, those special touches that make a classroom feel like home.
There’s something special about this time of year. It reminds us why we chose this most important profession: to broaden minds, nurture curiosity, encourage students to think beyond the realm of what they believe is possible, and provide the practice and experiences that help them grow into thoughtful, capable humans—humans we’d happily spend a 12-hour road trip with!
We are so excited to welcome everyone back to Burns Park and see you on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
New families: Please plan to stay for our 3:30 p.m. School Tours. We’re excited to welcome you into our community and help you get familiar with your new school.
The countdown is on! We can’t wait to see you.

Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the procedures and protocols of Burns Park Elementary.
We are committed to meeting the needs of all students and families and creating a school community where everyone feels safe, supported, respected, and valued. To help us do that, we have established procedures and protocols designed to support the safety, well-being, and success of our entire community.
We ask that you take a moment to review these expectations carefully. Understanding our procedures helps ensure that we can respond consistently, communicate effectively, and provide the support our students and families need.
Thank you for taking the time to become familiar with our Burns Park practices and for partnering with us to maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive school community.
Please take a look and reach out to the office if you have questions about any of the procedures or protocols.
*Please Note: I am asking all families that may have experienced a minor or major setback to please fill out the Family Needs Survey above. This survey helps ME know what additional support your family may need to fully participate in community wide events. Your presence is important to us all and this Penguin community wants to makes sure you're always included. *Please note that identifying information remains confidential and is not shared.
Please Note: AAPS is asking all families to fill out the above form. Allocation of resources for students and classrooms are based on the results of this form. The goal is to have 100% of Burns Park families complete this form by Oct.1 so that it can be represented in our count day funding.
Popsicles on the Playground
For those new to Burns Park,
Popsicles on the Playground is a celebration hosted each year for students to meet their new teachers and classmates. The morning of Tuesday, August 25th you will receive an email making you aware of your child's teacher assignment.
Students (and families) will arrive at 2:30 to gather with new and old classmates and this year's teacher.
If you are new to the building you are invited for a school tour at 3:30. 5th grade students will be the ambassadors who guide you through the halls of Burns Park.
Popsicles are served to all who show up (all family members included).
If you are unable to attend, no problem. We will look forward to seeing your family on the first day of school, Monday August 31, 2026 at 8:43am. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:30.
