Dear JC Families,

Starting Monday, June 8, our cafeteria will no longer be accessible as we begin the next phase of our renovation project, which is expected to be completed by the start of the 2026–2027 school year. During this temporary transition, students will eat in a dining space set up in the gymnasium, and we have worked closely with our Facilities Department, Food Services team, and Superintendent Dr. Jones to ensure students continue to have a comfortable space and a variety of meal options.

Our temporary lunch schedule will be:

5th Grade: 10:45–11:15 AM
2nd Grade: 11:15–11:45 AM
Kindergarten and 1st Grade: 11:45 AM–12:15 PM
3rd Grade and 4th Grade: 12:15–12:45 PM

Head to the district’s food services webpage for a JC-specific menu. Please refer to the image below for lunch pre-order information to pre-order whenever possible. Breakfast will continue to be available each morning at 7:45 AM, and students will have access to both cold lunch options and select hot meals, along with offerings from Garden Catering and Domino’s. We appreciate your flexibility and partnership during this exciting time for our school community.

Our 4th Grade Author Residency concluded today, marking the end of an incredible Writer-in-Residence program led by Katie Petruziello, author of Mighty Mila. Over the course of five days, Katie guided students through the exciting process of writing their own books, which they completed today. This program provided a unique opportunity for our scholars to experience how an author's mind works, observe the writing process in action, and see their own ideas come to life in print. They absolutely loved the experience, creative energies were flowing throughout the week, and our young authors displayed a remarkable sense of pride in their work. We are grateful for this enriching opportunity and the lasting impact it has had on our 4th grade scholars. A special thank you to the PTA for making this possible for our 4th graders.

Congratulations to Noah Mesarina for serving as Principal for a Day! He came dressed for the part in a collared shirt and blazer, visited classrooms, observed engaging learning in action, and even helped with morning announcements. Noah did a wonderful job capturing the energy and excitement of the school day and showing great school spirit throughout the experience.

¡La fiesta continúa fuera de la escuela por la tarde!

Cuándo: Miércoles 17 de junio

Hora: 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM

📚 JC Book of the Month: Something, Someday

by Amanda Gorman, Illustrated by Christian Robinson

In June, our JC community is reading Something, Someday by Amanda Gorman, illustrated by Caldecott Honor-winning illustrator Christian Robinson. Written by presidential inaugural poet and bestselling author Amanda Gorman, this inspiring picture book reminds readers that even the smallest acts of kindness, courage, and hope can create meaningful change in the world around us.

Through poetic language and vibrant illustrations, Something, Someday follows a community coming together to repair, rebuild, and care for what has been neglected- showing students that change often begins with one idea, one action, or one person willing to start. The story beautifully highlights themes of perseverance, empathy, collaboration, and the power of using your voice to make a difference.

This message connects especially well to the incredible weeklong work our Grade 4 students will be doing alongside visiting author Katie Petruzziello. Our Grade 4 authors will write, illustrate, and publish their very own picture books centered on a personal “Mighty Moment” of courage, growth, or perseverance. This authentic author experience reflects the bedrock of literacy- helping students see themselves not only as readers, but as writers, storytellers, and creators whose voices matter. Just like Something, Someday, this experience reminds students that their stories, ideas, and creativity have the power to inspire change and create something meaningful.

We are so excited to celebrate creativity, resilience, and student voice across our JC community. What a beautiful reminder that something small, someday, can grow into something extraordinary.
