The first week of school is almost in the books!!
Good evening Hillcrest Families,
It's been a great first week with your children. They have had really exciting days meeting their new teachers and classmates. Tomorrow will be the last half day for this week. School will be closed on Friday and Monday in honor of Labor Day. We will return on Tuesday for a regular full day. However, there is an early dismissal next Wednesday. I will send out a ParentLink reminder so you have arrangements for your child to be picked up. The early dismissal next week with be at 12:30 PM.
A Message from Home School
The Hillcrest Home & School Association (HSA) Board is excited to welcome you for the 2026-2027 school year. We are volunteers who work with the admin, teachers, and staff to provide enriching activities and fun activities for all students. Every Hillcrest family is a member of the HSA.

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
- If you are a parent dropping off and are driving your child to school, DO NOT park or exit your car while in the car line. There are teachers out there who will open your car door for your child to exit the car and then you will need to move your car out of the car line.
- If your child is a walker and you are choosing to drop off your child at school, please be courteous of the neighbors surrounding the school. DO NOT park in private driveways, block driveways, and/or double park on the street.
- If you are a parent with permissions to enter the front of the building for drop off or pick up, you must stay in the the bus line. You may not pass any of the busses in the bus loop.
- Parent pick up in carline should get smoother throughout the rest of the week. Again - thank you for your patience and understanding while we get to know what students are being picked up and placed in cars.
Fourth & Fifth Grade Students Only
Tomorrow, fourth and fifth grade students will begin to enter the building as soon as the Agnew doors open. Your children have been doing a great job getting acclimated to their new routines and the leaders of our building are ready to model appropriate entry expectations beginning tomorrow morning.
ALL OTHER GRADES will still be met by their teachers tomorrow and will transition to regular morning entrance patterns next Tuesday.

HILLCREST CARES ABOUT OUR STUDENTS’ HEALTH
Dear Hillcrest Families and Staff,
As we begin a new school year, I want to make sure that we are fully equipped and prepared to care for your child’s health and medical needs while they are at school.
How can you help make this happen? Please keep the school nurse informed of any medical needs, changes in health conditions, medications, allergies, or other concerns that may affect your child during the school day.
Alerting Us to Medical Needs
Please promptly inform the school nurse of any medical needs your child may have, especially if they require accommodations, monitoring, medication, or special care during the school day.
Allergies
If your child has an allergy, it is important that the school nurse is aware of:
- What your child is allergic to
- What type of reaction your child has experienced in the past
- What treatment is needed in the event of a reaction
If your child has an EpiPen or other emergency medication, please provide it to the school nurse for use in the event of an emergency at school.
Doctor’s orders and prescriptions must be updated each school year.
Asthma
If your child has a rescue inhaler to use as needed for an asthma exacerbation or a scheduled inhaler, it should be supplied to the school along with:
- A doctor’s order
- Signed parental consent
- An asthma action plan, if available
Orders and prescriptions must be updated each school year.
If you need assistance obtaining any of these forms, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am happy to help!
Chronic Health Conditions
Please inform the school nurse if your child has any chronic health condition, such as:
- Diabetes
- Seizures
- Heart conditions
- Any other medical condition that may require accommodations, monitoring, or emergency care at school
Please bring in, or have your child’s healthcare provider send, the appropriate information and orders explaining how your child’s condition should be managed while at school.
When appropriate, we can also arrange a care conference with the family, healthcare providers, and appropriate school staff to make sure we are providing your child with the best possible care and are prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
Orders and prescriptions must be updated each school year.
Medications — Prescription & Over-the-Counter
If your child will need to take prescription or over-the-counter medication at school, a medication form must be completed and signed before the medication can be administered.
Please request the appropriate medication form from the school nurse if needed.
We will NOT be able to accept or administer medication at school without the required form being fully completed and signed.
Medication orders and prescriptions must be updated each school year.
We Are Here to Help!
My goal is to work together with our families and staff to make sure every student is safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, even if you are unsure whether something needs to be reported. I would much rather have you reach out so we can work together to determine what your child may need.
Thank you for helping me make sure we are prepared to care for our Hillcrest students throughout the school year. I look forward to working together to make this a healthy, happy, and successful school year for all of our students!
Warmly,
Nurse Tanya

Emergency Card Information
Each year emergency cards are distributed to families so that our families can update information, add emergency contacts, etc. The emergency cards are due back to the school by September 11th. If you need to remove an emergency contact from your child's list, please do this through the Home Access Center (HAC). If you need assistance accessing HAC, please contact your child's principal.
