Principal Message

We’re in Full Swing at Heatherwood!

Dear Heatherwood Families,

What a wonderful start to the school year! Our students and staff have settled into their routines, classrooms are buzzing with learning, athletics and clubs are underway, and we are officially in full swing at Heatherwood Middle School. Thank you to our families for your continued partnership and support as we work together to make this a positive, productive, and successful year for every Hawk.

As we enter the month of October, here are a few important reminders and opportunities for our students and families.

Get Involved — Find Your Place at Heatherwood!

We strongly encourage every student to find a way to get involved and feel connected to our school community. Whether it is joining a club, participating in athletics, attending school events, or trying something completely new, involvement can make a tremendous difference in a student's middle school experience. Research consistently connects participation in school activities with a stronger sense of belonging and engagement. Students who feel connected to their school are more likely to attend regularly, experience academic success, build positive relationships, and develop new friendships. We have more than 15 clubs available to students, along with a variety of athletic opportunities throughout the school year. Please see the complete list of clubs and athletic seasons below and encourage your student to find something that sparks their interest. There truly is something for everyone!

Need a Little Extra Academic Support? Try Success Time!

We want every Hawk to know that asking for help is part of being a successful learner. Success Time is available Monday through Thursday from 3:00–4:00 PM in Room 305.

Students may attend whenever they need assistance in any subject, need help completing an assignment, or simply want a quiet, productive place to work on homework. No matter the reason, we encourage students to take advantage of this valuable resource.

Fall Weather Is Here — Dress in Layers

October in the Pacific Northwest can bring chilly mornings followed by warmer afternoons. We encourage students to dress in layers so they can remain comfortable throughout the school day as temperatures change.

Darker Mornings — Please Put Safety First

With the changing season also come darker mornings. If your student walks or rides a bike to school, please remind them to be especially cautious. Students should use designated crosswalks, remain alert to surrounding traffic, and take steps to make themselves visible to drivers.

We also ask our driving community to slow down, remain attentive, and watch carefully for students traveling to and from school. Keeping our Hawks safe is a shared responsibility.

Save the Dates — Parent-Teacher Conferences

Please be on the lookout for additional information regarding our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3.

Conferences will be held during the school day on both Monday and Tuesday, with additional evening conference opportunities on Tuesday, November 3. More information about scheduling and conference times will be shared soon.

As we move further into the school year, thank you for continuing to partner with us. Together, we are creating a school community where students feel known, valued, supported, and challenged and where every student has the opportunity to SOAR. We look forward to another positive and productive month ahead as Together WE: Elevate Excellence through Love and Learning.

With Hawk Pride,
Dr. Laura Wellington

Who are Natural Leaders?

We are a Multicultural Parent Group that supports families who may face language and cultural barriers. Through the work of our Natural Leaders, we build strong relationships with families, promote inclusion, and ensure that all families feel valued, connected, and heard within their school community.

We are always looking for new families to join our group to continue growing and strengthening our support network. By working together, we create a connection between home and school, support our children's educational journey, and create opportunities for families to make a meaningful impact on their school community.

We are very happy to be joined by new and returning families at Heatherwood. We recognize that when families are represented and have more presence at their schools, children achieve their highest potential.

Come to our MEET and GREET event on October 20th! We will host two times that day for you to join us and meet other families and staff involved in Natural Leaders. Choose from the following options:

  • 7:45 am - Heatherwood Library
  • 2:30 pm - Heatherwood Library
