School starts on Monday, Aug. 17! We look forward to welcoming your student back to school. Below are some ways to help the first day of school go more smoothly.

Update Your Student’s Information and See Your Student's Class and Bus Schedule

Student class and bus schedules are now available to view in ParentVUE. Parents and guardians must update their student’s information and answer the required questions before the schedules can be accessed. This required annual update of student information must be completed before you can view your student’s school and bus schedules.

Ensure Your Student Has Required Immunization Documentation
Ensure that your student -- especially kindergarten, 7th and 12th grade students -- has their required immunization documentation. These immunizations are required by Virginia Code and help keep all students healthy. Once your student is vaccinated, please provide their school with the appropriate documentation. Students need the required immunizations to attend school.

Review the Updated Dress Code Policy

The Loudoun County School Board recently approved updates to Student Dress Code, Policy 8270. The changes take effect with the start of the 2026/27 school year and include updated clothing coverage requirements, physical education attire expectations and clarification about items that are and are not permitted at school. Families are encouraged to review the updated policy with their students before the first day of school to help ensure they understand the new expectations. Read a summary of the updates to the student dress code policy.

E‑bikes and e‑scooters continue to grow in popularity among students, but their increased use has also led to safety concerns in our community. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of everyone on our campuses, all motorized and electric-powered personal transport devices and toys are prohibited from being operated on school grounds. Students may use these devices to commute to school. Once on school property, however, the student must walk their motorized or electric-powered device. Please see the E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety webpage for more information.

Opportunity to Preview Title IX Awareness Video Opportunity to Preview Title IX Awareness Video

The LCPS Title IX Office has launched an initiative to educate students about Title IX, a federal law that protects students’ rights in school. This school year, middle and high school students will take part in a brief Title IX Student Bystander Training video and lesson. This lesson consists of a short, animated video that explains Title IX and focuses specifically on the role students can play as active bystanders. We recognize that some content may be sensitive, and we are committed to presenting it in a thoughtful, age-appropriate and supportive manner. Over the summer and continuing this week and on Aug. 27 (in-person session), we are providing parents with a chance to preview the material.

Some preview sessions have already been held. The remaining sessions are:

  • Friday, Aug. 14: 3-3:30 p.m. (virtual)
  • Friday, Aug. 14: 3:30-4 p.m. (virtual)
  • Thursday, Aug. 27: 6-6:30 p.m. (in-person at the LCPS Administration Building, 21000 Education Ct., Ashburn)

If you plan to attend, RSVP by completing the following form: LCPS Title IX: Bystander Training Video Parent Viewing Opportunity. A virtual meeting link will be emailed to you after your RSVP has been received.

LCPS School Nutrition Services is committed to providing students with nutritious meals that support learning and encourage lifelong healthy eating habits. LCPS uses LINQ Connect, an online platform that makes it easy to view daily breakfast and lunch menus for each school, check nutrition information and submit meal payments. To get started, families should create an account by visiting the LINQ Connect website and selecting “Register” in the top right corner.

LCPS also participates in the USDA Free and Reduced‑Price Meal (FARM) Program, which ensures eligible students have access to healthy breakfasts and lunches at no or low cost. This program plays an important role in supporting student success by providing the meals they need to learn and thrive. Applications for free and reduced meals are available on the LCPS website and at all school sites. LCPS administers the FARM Program in full compliance with federal and state regulations. See the LCPS Free and Reduced Meals webpage for more details.

Several LCPS schools will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) this year, implemented through the Healthy, Hunger‑Free Kids Act of 2010. CEP schools include Park View High, Sterling Middle, Guilford Elementary, Forest Grove Elementary, Sully Elementary, Sterling Elementary, Rolling Ridge Elementary, Meadowland Elementary, Sugarland Elementary, Potowmack Elementary and The North Star School. Students attending these schools will receive a nutritious breakfast and lunch each day at no cost, helping ensure every child has the fuel they need for a successful school day.

New Process for Requesting Medically Modified Meals New Process for Requesting Medically Modified Meals

This school year, LCPS School Nutrition Services is implementing a standardized process for students who require a medically modified school meal. Families must submit a completed Dietary Accommodation Form or a note signed by a licensed medical provider to mealmodifications@lcps.org.

Medical dietary accommodation is only needed for students who plan to eat school meals and require a meal modification due to a medical need. The form only needs to be submitted once during a student’s enrollment at LCPS unless the medical need changes. Please note that students with a 504 Plan or IEP must still submit the required medical documentation to receive a modified school meal.

A Dietary Accommodation Form is not required for:

  • Vegetarian or vegan meal requests. (Vegetarian options are offered daily.)

  • Students avoiding peanuts, tree nuts or shellfish, as these ingredients are not served in LCPS menu items.

  • Halal meal requests. (A separate Halal Meal Request Form is available on the LCPS website).

  • Students who do not plan to eat school meals.

View the forms on the School Nutrition Services website. Forms are available in the top six LCPS languages. Please submit any questions and documentation to mealmodifications@lcps.org.

Smart Start K-2 Tech Pilot to Launch at 13 Elementary Schools Smart Start K-2 Tech Pilot to Launch at 13 Elementary Schools

LCPS will launch the Smart Start K-2 Tech Pilot during the 2026/27 school year at 13 elementary schools. The pilot is part of the division's Intentional Technology Initiative and will help evaluate how classroom technology can best support teaching and learning for students in kindergarten through second grade. The pilot reflects our commitment to evaluating instructional practices and ensuring technology is used intentionally to support teaching and learning while meeting the developmental needs of our youngest students.

Beginning with the 2026/27 school year, students in kindergarten through second grade at participating schools will no longer be assigned individual Chromebooks to take home. Instead, they will continue using Chromebooks and other digital learning tools in the classroom through shared classroom technology models when these tools support instruction. Students will continue using technology for classroom activities, digital learning resources and required assessments. Throughout the pilot, LCPS will gather feedback from teachers and school leaders to help inform future recommendations for kindergarten through second grade.

The following schools will participate in the pilot during the 2026/27 school year: Aldie, Ashburn, Discovery, Goshen Post, Leesburg, Lovettsville, Mill Run, Potowmack, Richard and Mildred Loving, Round Hill, Sanders Corner, Seldens Landing and Waterford.

Learn more about the Smart Start K-2 Tech Pilot and read the answers to frequently asked questions.

Resources to Support Student and Family Wellbeing Resources to Support Student and Family Wellbeing

As the new school year begins, supporting our students’ mental health is more important than ever. The new school year can bring feelings of both anxiety and excitement as students transition into a new grade or perhaps even a new school. Below are a few tips to help ease the transition back to school:

  • Reintroduce routine: In the days leading up to the first day, help your student get back into school‑year habits by encouraging 30 minutes of daily reading, setting a consistent bedtime, and using a morning alarm to reset wake‑up times.

  • Build healthy coping strategies: Practice simple techniques like breathing exercises during challenging moments, incorporate daily physical activity to release tension, or reach out to a trusted family member or friend to talk through concerns.

  • Celebrate wins: Focus on effort, bravery and progress to help your student build confidence and resilience.

  • Ask for help: If you or your student could use additional support, LCPS offers several helpful resources through the Office of Student Mental Health Services.

Family Resources

  • Care Solace: Care Solace is a free care‑coordination service that helps LCPS families and staff connect with mental health and substance‑use treatment options that fit their needs. It navigates the mental health care system on your behalf by locating community‑based providers and securing appointments as quickly as possible with the most appropriate care. Care Solace also ensures that providers accept your medical insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare, or offer sliding‑scale payment options for those without coverage. Care Solace is available to both LCPS families and staff.
  • Parent Guidance: Parent Guidance is a free online platform that offers on‑demand videos about youth‑development topics, plus parent coaching, which connects parents/guardians with a dedicated coach and therapist-created resources to help you navigate the ups and downs of parenting with confidence.
  • United Mental Health and Wellness Teams: Every school has a UMHT made up of school counselors, social workers, psychologists, and student assistance specialists. These teams partner with teachers, staff and families to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs and to remove barriers to learning.
  • Attendance Resources: Regular attendance is essential for students to fully benefit from school. Each school has an Attendance Officer who works with students, families, and staff to encourage strong attendance and support academic success.

Ready for the New School Year! Ready for the New School Year!

LCPS kicked off the 2026/27 school year last week with a warm welcome for teachers and staff returning to their schools. In the days leading up to the first day of school, LCPS staff participated in trainings filled with inspiration, connection and practical tools to support a strong start. Educators and staff new to LCPS were greeted by future colleagues -- and even a few school mascots -- as they arrived to attend professional development sessions. LCPS hired 523 new licensed personnel for the year. As of Wednesday, 99.36% of school‑based licensed positions are filled, marking the lowest vacancy rate in years. Read more about the return to school.

LCPS Continues Classroom Supply Allotments for Teachers LCPS Continues Classroom Supply Allotments for Teachers

For the sixth consecutive year, LCPS is providing classroom supply allotments to teachers. First-year teachers receive $250, while returning teachers receive $100.

Teachers access these funds by coordinating purchases with their school's financial technician or principal. Purchases are made through an approved school-supply vendor or with the school's purchasing card.

Using this established process stretches available funding, streamlines purchase tracking and, importantly, avoids personal tax implications for teachers.

In addition to the teacher allotments, each school receives funding for classroom supplies and instructional equipment throughout the school year. Principals determine how those funds are used to ensure teachers have the resources they need. The teacher allotments provide additional funding for classroom materials and other items that support student learning.

School supplies are only one part of preparing students for a successful school year. Some LCPS students also need coats, eyeglasses, food and other basic necessities. To learn how you, your business or nonprofit organization can support students in need, contact the Loudoun Education Foundation, the Division of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) or your school's principal.

All feedback will be reviewed by the School Board Committee as they develop policies for submission to the entire School Board. The authority for final approval of any policy lies solely with the Loudoun County School Board.
