Principal's Message
Dear Mary M. Knight Families,
I hope this message finds you well as we approach the exciting start of the 2024-2025 school year. There's a buzz of anticipation in the air as we prepare to welcome our OWLS back to campus!
This week, we're thrilled to have our dedicated teachers and staff return for professional development sessions. Their commitment to growth ensures that we're always improving and ready to provide the best educational experience for your children.
Our maintenance team has been working tirelessly to put the finishing touches on our buildings and facilities. We're ensuring everything is in top shape to create a welcoming environment for our students when they arrive on August 27th for the first day of school.
For those of you with questions, both our high school and elementary building offices will be open starting Tuesday, August 20th. Feel free to give us a call or stop by if you need assistance.
We're also excited to invite all our families to our back-to-school BBQ night on Friday, August 23rd, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This will be a fantastic opportunity to meet your children's teachers, explore the school, enjoy some good food, and gather important information for the upcoming year. We look forward to seeing you there!
Next week will be a whirlwind of activity as our staff engages in final preparations, training sessions, and last-minute touches to ensure we're fully prepared for the new school year. The energy and dedication of our team never cease to amaze me.
Lastly, I want to express my appreciation to our community. Your ongoing support of Mary M. Knight School District is invaluable, and it's what makes our school such a special place. We can't wait to greet you and your children on the first day of school and embark on another year of growth, learning, and achievement together.

Sarah Bell - New Assistant Principal
Hello OWL Families!
Can you believe it? Summer is winding down, the aisles at the store are brimming with back-to-school supplies, and the first day of school is just around the corner! This week, our campus has been buzzing with activity as students and families came by for registration. I’ve loved meeting everyone—especially those who stopped by my office to share summer adventures, their excitement for the new year, and, of course, all the juicy “tea” I need as the new assistant principal. It’s clear that this year is going to be a blast getting to know all of you!
I also had the pleasure of chatting with our amazing PTO, who are brimming with enthusiasm about the upcoming school year. Their excitement is truly infectious, and I’m looking forward to collaborating with them as we dive into a fantastic year ahead.
And let’s not forget the campus improvements that have kept everyone buzzing this week! Among all the updates, I’m particularly excited about the new four-square court by our elementary building. Watch out, 5th graders—I’m ready for a rematch!
With the first day of school only a week away, it’s a great time to embrace the fresh start and think about how we can embody a GRIT mindset this year. As we prepare for new opportunities, let’s reflect on how we can show Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Warmly,
Ms. Sarah Bell
Assistant Principal
Back To School BBQ - Friday, August 23, 2024
This upcoming Friday (8/23/24) we will be holding our annual Back To School BBQ event from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Mary M. Knight.
This event will begin with a message from the principal at 5:00 pm in the commons area. This message will be brief to share some key information for the 2024-25 school year before sending students and families on their way to meet the teachers.
This is an even t in which students will get to connect with their peers and meet their teacher(s) for the school year and find out any important information regarding the school year. There will be some community groups such as the Anywhere Library, Parent Teacher Organization, etc. to share some information to our families as well as information about our school. The district will be providing food for our families that is generously being prepped and cooked by our PTO partners.
We look forward to seeing our families at this event.

--- Character Strong ---
Character Strong
This year, we will continue our journey of implementing Character Strong as our Social-Emotional curriculum at Mary M. Knight. Character Strong is a curriculum that provides universal instruction aligned to state and national social-emotional learning standards.
Over the past two years, we began at the elementary (grades PK-6) level, expanding to the middle (grades 7-8), and finally to the secondary level (grades 9-12) as a whole-district program. Future emails will share more specific focuses and information for each grade level as we begin.
----GRIT and Positive Referrals----
Weekly above the line students
Positive Referrals - These are referrals that any staff member can fill out on a student who they feel are consistently demonstrating actions or behaviors related to our OWLS behavior expectations of Ownership, Willingness, Leadership, and Success. When a student received a positive referral, they are give a certificate, contacted home on what they did to earn it, and are posted in the school.
GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
