Better Together Better Together

Dear families,

While I am sure that many were excited for our three day weekend to turn into a 5 day weekend, being back in routine feels good. We were happy to see our students, even if it was just for two days.

Even though my time here has been short, I have felt so welcomed by all. I have enjoyed being able to pop into the classrooms and see what each class is doing. As I am sure you are all aware, the staff at Wiggin Street goes above and beyond for the students in this community.

I wish you all the best over the weekend. Hopefully the warmer temperatures will allow everyone to get outside for a bit.

Best Wishes,

Hannah Taylor

Remote Learning Work Remote Learning Work

Mount Vernon Schools have officially reached their five snow days. This means that if we were to get any more snow days, students will be responsible for remote learning work.

If the weather is looking questionable, teachers will send home a remote learning packet. That packet will need to be completed on the snow day, and turned in on the next school day.

Sometimes, poor weather sneaks up on us. If Mount Vernon were to cancel school and the teacher did not provide any work, they will assign work on the next school day we are in session. The students would have 10 days to complete this work.

If the work is not turned in, it would be considered an absence. This is a district policy that each school is following. Please feel free to call me with any questions you might have about this policy.

3rd Grade Field Trip 3rd Grade Field Trip

The third grade classes had an excellent time on their field trip. The trip focused on how dust particles have effected glaciers and human life. They spent the morning at Brown Family Environmental Center participating in some hands-on learning. Then, they traveled over to The Gund to check out the 'Something Blue' exhibit, and to Chalmers Library, to explore the 'Dust' science exhibit. The exhibits are open to the public, so families are encouraged to check it out.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP)

We were finally able to begin the FFV Program today. Students were able to try kiwi and cherry tomatoes. It was exciting to sample foods that were new to some, and familiar to others. We hope this will allow students to find some new fruits and veggies they can enjoy.

Winter Weather

Please remember that students will go outside on days where the temperature with wind chill accounted for is 20°f and above. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Coats, hats, and gloves are necessary at this time of the year. Boots are required for playing in the snow. If you need assistance with winter outerwear for your child, please contact our school, and we will happily find warm clothes for them.
